Worried about a xmas day baby

I am due on Sunday and until now I have just assumed that this will be early, probably because dd was 3 days early.

I have been having a few niggles but nothing huge. I am now very aware that xmas is coming up fast and there is a real possibility that it will come on xmas day, in fact, I am almost positive that is when it will come. Obviously the main thing is that it is healthy and in the great scheme of things, doesn't matter when it comes but I am still worried.

I have told dd that she will have to spend xmas day at her grandparents if the comes and she was a bit upset. She is nearly 4 and xmas is a big deal this year.

I am also worried that having a birthday on xmas day will be horrible for the new child. Does anyone have children on or around xmas. How do you deal with it.

Me too due Boxing Day my DD (age 6) will be gutted if I am not here xmas morning....not much we can do about it though

My birthday is one Christmas day, it's fine, really.
I thought ds3 was going to arrive on Xmas day but he didn't turn up until 4th Jan. DS1 did manage to hospitalise me with high blood pressure on that day but that's another story.

If it happens on Xmas day just build it up as something exciting for your dd 'hey wow best xmas present ever- new broother or sister etc etc'. She'll be fine with toys and presents anyway. Don't keep telling her she'll need to go to her grandparents. You could have the baby tomorrow and be home well in time for Xmas.

I reckon that if you have to have a birthday close to Christmas it might just as well be on the day itself. At least that makes you special. Otherwise you get joint everything, but your birthday's just another day nonetheless.

My friend's DS was born December 23rd. They don't put up Christmas decorations until December 24th, and make a big deal out of his birthday.

Speaking from previous experience I take it that you have got all your DD's presents all wrapped up and ready just in case you are not around

My DS will be 1 on Saturday..... he was nearly 4 weeks early and thankfully I was prepared for Santas visit ... would have been a nightmare otherwise.

Had my decorations up for a while now as I think it adds to the general excitement

Family I knew has a Christmas day baby. She went into labour as she was stirring the bread sauce! But they sorted the birtday clash Christmas day problems out by having and Un-official birthday on a specified date. I think they chose her deceased grandfathers birthday in April. The daughter would still have Birthday cards on Xmas day, but would have the party and presents in April.

Well if you are having a few niggles now then you could maybe try the old hot curry, hot bath and hot sex to get things moving (if you have already completed your preparations), otherwise delegate all cooking etc to someone else, don't leave home without your labour notes and best of luck

Thought the same here but didn't. If your labour is starting now and your dc doesn't come until 25th that will probably be the longest labor in history . As I said to someone at work today as long as your not talking about shopping there are many days between now and Christmas Day so fingers crossed, good luck and congratulations!!

I am a christmas day baby, and if i'm honest I love it, always made me feel special growing up and my parenst and family always gave seperate presents and paper and opened on the sat before christmas and also celebrated on the day itself.

Hello, just to let you know, I am in the same situation as you!

I thought she was coming early as I had a show 2 weeks ago, and more since. Also had lots of other signs of labour but turns out it was just pre-labour and doesn't actually mean anything!

I am due tomorrow, but can't see it happening right on the due date.

Well I am still here. Still getting BH contractions which are sometimes painful but nothing comes of them. I am just keeping my fingers crossed that I make it until at least tomorrow afternoon so that I can see DD open her presents and will probably not actually have baby until Boxing Day. I had a very long labour (36 hrs) with DD so I doubt I will have a speedy one this time. DH's grandad has his birthday on boxing day so maybe his great grandchild will take after him.

Wish me luck and good luck to everyone else who is in the same position .

Hi there,
Just read your thread and thought I'd give you some moral support. I'm due tomorrow on Christmas day with number 2 we already have a DD almost 16 months so we'll have our hands full!!
I've had a sweep and a show and loads of contractions but still no sign of the baby. Getting quite frustrated as I'd really hoped to have had baby by now! Our problem is that we don't have family near by so are having to make fairly flimsy arrangements with friends to look after our LO or I'll have to go to have the baby on my own if can't get hold of anyone...which doesn't appeal as I too was in labour for 36 hours last time! Anyway so long as its a healthy baby I'm not concerned but fingers crossed for everyone else out there due around Christmas.

DS was due on the 22nd, but didn't arrive til the 28th, although he gave me a very uncomfortable Christmas Day - so you may well get through the holiday.
He will be 20 this year - can't quite believe it!

Firstly congratulations Scrummymum on your impending arrival and try not to stress too much (difficult I know ). Hopefully you can enjoy Christmas with your dd on the day!
DS1 was due on 27th but kept me hanging on until 30th December. I still remember not being able to eat any turkey or spuds that year due to my size and dreadful hearburn! He's 6 this year and we've always tried to keep the two celebrations separate. He's having his birtday party early in January so his school buddies are around. Having said that, Christmas is incidental to the big build up to his birthday!

Happy Christmas to all who are either celebrating a birthday or due an extra special Christmas present in the form of a bundle of joy!
