Help, 4 + 2, just sneezed and felt a 'ping' in my groin!

Hi all,

I'm 4 + 2 today and I've just been sitting on the bed like in the attached pic and sneezed, OMG, I got the sharpest, shooting 'ping' type pain, almost where my bikini line would be on the right of my groin. It was agony for about a second. I jumped up.

I'm SO worried that I've managed to expel the little bean Sad

I googled sharp pain in groin when sneezing which brought up Round Ligament Pain....which does sound like what it was...but I'm only 4+2 abs I've searched and searched and cannot find anyone saying they've had it that early. It says it usually starts in your second trimester, or from about 6 weeks.

I'm so worried I've twisted/ pulled something and it's done something awful to the embryo Sad

Has anyone else had this, this early? I think it's due to the position I was sitting in!

I had that. Especially if I moved to quick or got up to quick. Round ligament pain. Disappears after about 30 seconds . Nothing to worry about ☺️

Thanks @fiowen45 , I think I'm just concerned because it looks like I could be too early for round ligament pain.

God I just need to relax a bit, honestly I've only known for 6 days but they've been the most anxious of my life.

It was just such a sharp, shooting pain I instantly thought I'd ripped something inside of me and was then thinking 'is that where my womb is?' Argggh Xmas Blush

I had a weird deep period like pain at about 5 weeks. Nothing else and everything is fine now at 17 weeks. It was really weird. Thing is at 4 weeks it's too early to see anything, so I think it will be a waiting game I'm afraid. But your body does conjure up all sorts of weird aches and pains in pregnancy. If you are very worried, you could call the midwife hub, but they will likely tell you much of the same.

I guess it's whether you can expel an embryo from pulling a muscle where your knicker line is? (Down the sides of your groin?) I seriously, seriously hope not Sad

Of course you can't expel an embryo from a movement or rip something inside you so easily 😂 I mean really now. It's round ligament pain. I'm hypermobile and it's my first symptom always.

Sorry, I know I'm probably being silly.

I can't tell you how bad my anxiety is right now Sad finally pregnant after all this time and thinking we'll never have children and honestly, I'm just an anxious mess Sad worried about every little thing. I had brown spotting earlier on in the week before AF was due and was really panicked so that hasn't helped either.

Use common sense. If you could miscarry because of a sneeze, how many babies would actually make it to birth? Why would desperate women who didn't want to be pregnant have had to resort to throwing themselves down stairs and back alley terminations? A healthy pregnancy doesn't end unless the mother is literally near death or surgery or powerful drugs are used.

Do you have existing issues with anxiety?

QuestionableMouse · 19/12/2021 17:42

If it was something serious, you'd still be in pain now. Sounds like you've just tweaked something. I'm positive that everything will be okay.

Pearldrops04 · 19/12/2021 17:46

Yes I do have existing issues with anxiety unfortunately. Diazepam helps when it's really bad but obviously can't take that now.

I've been dry as a bone (TMI, sorry) the last couple of days but 30 mins after that sneeze I've just had a load of clear discharge?!

Anyway, it's all out of my control. I know I just need to try and forget about it. I wouldn't normally think a sneeze could terminate a pregnancy, lol. In fact it's not the sneeze I'm worried about, it's the ripping sensation in my groin! But it isn't sore now so hopefully something and nothing.

I would go back to your GP to discuss the managing of your anxiety in pregnancy, tbh, and make sure you raise it to your midwife when you speak to them. Pregnancy is full of changes and weird twinges and you have a lot of months to go. Spending them in this state will be pretty miserable.

Garman · 19/12/2021 18:44

100% it was round ligament pain.
