and vests - just looking for some adavnce information from you experienced mums!

I've just washed all the newborn clothes (I'm due 11 January) to get the nasty chemicals out and am wondering if I'm really going to iron them all once I'm washing when the baby is here.

Is it shameful not to?

I find that the creases simply drop out of a babygro once there's a baby inside it

But them nesting hormones are very powerful, so go forth and iron if you need to

nosnikrap · 19/12/2007 22:23

I iron as the fancy takes me, always ironed vests with ds1 but never baby gros, don't know if I will with Ds/d 2 see if I have time!!

LOVEMYMUM · 19/12/2007 22:41

I will be washing everything but not ironing.

DH won't even let me iron his shirts (yippee!), cos i can't get them 100% crease free.

Mentioned to DH that I might iron babythings to DH - he's still on the floor laughing at my hormones!

frostythesnowmum · 19/12/2007 22:42

fuck no

Twinklemegan · 19/12/2007 22:46

I must have had some serious hormones going on because I washed and ironed absolutely everything before DS was born, AND
I continued to soak, wash and iron vests, babygrows AND muslin squares until I went back to work.

That's just not me (DH will vouch for that).

However, I do find that ironing clothes makes them last longer. It stops them bobbling so much for one thing, they keep their shape better and they're softer to the touch.

MerryPIFFLEmas · 19/12/2007 22:46

you could ask

Do you iron xxxxxxx? of any garment known to humankind
The answer will always be no from me

Twinklemegan · 19/12/2007 22:52

My DH is a freak and it's rubbed off on me. Although the effect is fading somewhat now I'm back at work. (I do like to iron our bedding though).

Dalrymps · 19/12/2007 22:54

i have no idea where my iron is, if i have clean clothes myself it's a miracle

XmastimePelvicfloorsandWine · 19/12/2007 22:56

Have always ironed babygrows ,i feel no shame.

ALomonderfulLife · 19/12/2007 23:01

I find ironing makes them softer so do it if they have dried in the house. If they have been hung outside to dry I don't bother. Wouldn't bother if I had a tumble dryer as that makes them soft.

dal21 · 20/12/2007 09:57

LMAO.

No....never ironed anything DS wears. (But i do iron bedsheets, doesn't everyone?? ha ha )

LiegeAndLief · 20/12/2007 12:03

Second frostythesnowmum.

I don't iron my own clothes... as for dh's - you must be joking.

WewishyouaBUMPERLICIOUS · 20/12/2007 12:27

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahaahahahahahah

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha hahahahahahaahhahaahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Seriously, if it makes you happy then feel no shame but no-one is going to report you to SS for wrinkled clothes!

I'm dreading when dd goes to school, i might actually have to start ironing then!

IsawSusiekissingSantaClaus · 20/12/2007 12:30

Perhaps MWs should put a copy of this thread in the Bounty pack for new mums

Before giving birth I have always made a big deal of washing and ironing everything for the baby, mainly because of the warm glow you get from looking at them, you spend ages imagining how cute your baby will look in them. Once they are born though I dont bother, why make more work for yourself, being a new mum takes enough of your time without adding to your workload

festivecircus · 21/12/2007 01:50

I have been washing and ironing everything in preparation for PFB's arrival (including muslin squares ; it helps with the insomnia. To be fair I never iron anything else and am fully aware that I will almost certainly never iron any of this stuff ever again. At the moment though I can't help myself, laugh all you like, I wont know about it because just typing this has reminded me that there's a pile of baby stuff upstairs I could be ironing.

cupcake78 · 21/12/2007 18:22

If you it makes you feel better before your baby comes then go mad and iron away.

Once your baby is here I can almost guarentee they will never be ironed again!!

chloemegjess · 21/12/2007 18:40

I really wouldn't bother! I don't bother with most of mine and DH's clothes, never mind baby things! I am in the process of washing all of the baby things ready, but I certainly won't iron them.

I think to iron them is just making more hard work. I personally have enough to do!

lionbeast · 21/12/2007 19:33

you do when your pregnant, and getting perpared for baby, but when you have the baby you won't have the time

FlossALumpOfPud · 21/12/2007 19:35

I get my ironing board out maximum of once every other month...

Crumples fall out you see. By the time I'm organised enough to leave the house they are sometimes gone or I am just past caring.

MrsDandOllie · 21/12/2007 19:42

I ironed everything, including babygrows and muslins before DS was born! Never ironed anything of his since (he is 2 now) and I am due this next baby in a month and have still to get around to washing all the baby things, let alone bother to iron anything lol

reikizen · 21/12/2007 19:48

Ho Ho Ho

NineUnlovelyTinselDecorations · 21/12/2007 19:48

I am a babygrow and vest ironer. Have been since Ds was about 3 months old. It started with just the occasional mulsin and then I went onto the harder stuff, you know t-shirts etc. Then I found myself mixing with the ironing crowd more and more, until eventually I ironed everything.

Looking at my ironing basket this evening you'd think I'd made a pretty good recovery though.
