Spotting during pregnancy on and off for weeks

Hi,

Hoping to have some reassuring stories or ladies who've had similar experiences.

I'm 12+5 and I've had spotting (pink or brown CM) on and off since week 6. I think the longest spell I've had of nothing was 9 days! Otherwise it's kind of always there when I wipe after the loo.

I've had 5 scans already every week or two since 6 weeks and all show a healthy baby with a good heartbeat, no SCH etc... they can't seem to explain why this is happening other than giving me loads of potential causes.

I'm very scared. This is our first and we tried for so long. I'm living in a state of anxiety. Next scan is in a few days and I'm dreading it.

Xxxx

Hey

I also had this from around 6 weeks also, similar to you it was pretty much daily every time I wiped and they couldn't see any reason for it on any scans either and just kept saying it's common and it happens.
I had had 4 previous miscarriages so my anxiety was through the roof.
My bleeding eventually stopped around 16 weeks and I am currently 30 weeks pregnant.
Hope this gives you some hope that bleeding isn't always a bad sign. I know it's hard not to panic every time you see blood but it couldn't just be one of those things. Good luck on your journey xx

Thanks so much for replying! That does help a lot thank you. Riddled with anxiety at the mo and every time I see spotting I feel sick to my stomach. Really hope it stops for me like it did you xxx

I spotted every single day, sometimes bright red but mainly brown or pink, between 5 weeks and 13 weeks. The rest of the pregnancy was uneventful. This is really not that uncommon but it is completely terrifying. I didn’t get any early scans and I was sick with nerves when we went for the 12 week scan, but it was all fine. I think it’s surprisingly common!

Hey OP, I feel your pain. Pregnancy is such an anxiety provoking time. So in both my pregnancies (DD aged 3 and currently 14 weeks) I have spotted. Both times due to some bruising caused when the embryo was nestling in that's just gradually coming away. This second bruise was so teeny though it took three scans to find it, but was big enough to cause bleeding!

Your chances of miscarriage at this point is now teeny tiny. I would just try your best to accept this is what your body is doing, it's innocent, and it might keep doing it, but it doesn't mean anything is wrong xxx

I agree with everyone. At 12+5, your chance of miscarriage is just over 1%. I’ve discovered through personal experience, that women bleed in pregnancy a lot more commonly than we are led to believe.

We all think that blood = miscarriage and there are so so many reasons for bleeding and spotting in pregnancy. I had a MASSIVE bleed at 8 weeks, heavier than anything I’ve ever experienced during periods etc. I didn’t contact anyone, as I decided there was nothing anyone could do. Went to my 12 week scan (was dreading it) and all fine! Currently 26+1 with a very wriggly baby (who goes quiet for a day or so at a time and freaks me out).

I’m sure you’ll be fine. They might even be able to tell you why you’re spotting after another scan.

Please ignore this link if it’s likely to make you anxious, but someone shared this on a thread early in my pregnancy and I found it very reassuring.

Thanks ladies. Still happening now. Every other day it seems at the mo... so scared for my scan on Wednesday. I'm 13 weeks today.

Are you getting any pain or discomfort with it?

beansprout55 · 20/12/2021 20:03

No not really. The odd cramp and twinge episode. Had that since I found out I was pregnant at 4 weeks though!x

Ahhh OP I’m so glad it worked out for you! Congratulations. And hopefully now you’ll be able to enjoy the pregnancy properly.
Would you mind letting us know what the consultant says? My first trimester spotting was never investigated at all and I only saw the midwife about twice during the entire pregnancy so I never had any idea why it happened! I’d be really interested to know T least some of the possible causes.
