I plan on having 1 glass on Christmas Day and one on NYE - hoping that won't hurt! (I'm 23 weeks) Anyone else?

I'm 12 weeks tomorrow and I will be having a glass of wine with my Christmas dinner. I don't think 1 drink over 9 months is too excessive.

deaconblue · 19/12/2007 13:00

I'm 20 weeks and haven't touched even a sip yet but do plan to have a glass of super cold Chablis on Christmas Day. I found with ds1 though that one glass did make me feel squiffy like 3 glasses did pre-pregnancy so definitely will only make it a small one.

isaidhohoho · 19/12/2007 13:01

yes - after 8 weeks abstinence I'm sure one will be plenty for me!

BeeWiseMen · 19/12/2007 13:03

last christmas I had one glass of red on christmas eve (I was 15 weeks) and it was the most beautiful thing I had ever tasted. That set off a red wine craving which lasted almost the rest of the pregnancy. Be warned!

Just doesn't taste the same now I can throw gallons of the stuff down my neck whenever I like.

whenachildisbob · 19/12/2007 13:06

I'm 22 weeks and will have my one glass measured to the millilitre! My dad can be a bit too generous so one glass from him would probably be 3 units!

widgetsmummy · 19/12/2007 13:07

yep - allowing myself a shot (or two) of Baileys with ice on Christmas Eve, can live without the wine.

MuffinMclay · 19/12/2007 13:12

Yes (33 weeks). Perhaps with the pate (other thread).

bumpybecky · 19/12/2007 13:42

I'll definately have a glass or two

but I'm due Boxing Day and take the view that once you're at term (so 37+ weeks) you need to try and make it less pleasant in there or they'll never come out! my previous 3 have been late, so needed a bit of enocuraging

catsypug · 19/12/2007 15:15

I will definitely be having a glass or two over Xmas and New Year and then ice cold bottles of Becks Non Alcohol inbetween.

Can't seem to avoid alcohol this pregnancy - I have had so many celebrations - house moves, birthdays etc and now it's Xmas!

I just keep to the rule that if you even feel slightly tipsy then baby is steaming drunk So I only ever have 1 glass of red or champagne now and again!! Common sense is best.

Becks beer is great though.

I am saying I will have a glass of wine but my sense of smell doesn't agree at the moment! I will be 15 weeks next week.

derah · 19/12/2007 16:35

Goodness yes. I've had the odd glass here and there (am 28 weeks), but never more than one. Not that I usually drink much more than that when I'm not preggers! But I shall certainly have a glass on Christmas day and NYE!

pollyannainexcelsis · 19/12/2007 16:38

I'm 25/26 weeks and will have some gin and tonic probably. Wine makes me feel sick. I think dessert wine may be ok.

Janus · 19/12/2007 17:17

I had nothing for first 15 weeks of pregnancy and have allowed myself a small glass of wine with a Sunday roast for the past few weeks, now 19 weeks. So, I will be having a glass of champers on Xmas Day and may even have one on Boxing Day too!! I think moderation is the absolute key here and, as someone said, don't let yourself feel squiffy. It is Christmas!

minspugs · 19/12/2007 18:10

yup, christmas eve i'll be having one or two spritzers

dillinger · 19/12/2007 20:00

No I dont think I will. Im 26 weeks

shinyshoes · 19/12/2007 20:28

I'm 38+4 and I don't think i'll be chancing it TBH. I'd never forgive myself if something happens, and despite chucking it down my neck at every given opportunity pre pregnancy, I cant stand the smell of the stuff at the moment.
Enjoy ladies, have one for me

debinaustria · 19/12/2007 21:16

Mine's a small Baileys thanks!!..oh and some brandy butter with my mince pies and rum sauce with my Christmas pud!!!I'm nearly 16 weeks

tyaca · 19/12/2007 23:06

oh yes. def.

prob a couple of glasses at least three or four times. maybe will substitute wine for a decent cognac if my mum's got some in. hmmm.... or some whiskey. or calvados

the only reason i wont be drinking more often is that two glasses just doesnt touch the sides, so when i do indulge, it hardly seems worth ut

slim22 · 20/12/2007 02:06

Yes, a glass of ice cold champers or nice red wine.

Tyaca make sure you have you substitutes on a FULL stomach!

chloeb2002 · 20/12/2007 06:42

red hot here in brisbane! well not quite red hot more 30degrees. couldnt stand the smell let a lone the taste of alcohol at first but will confess now is a different story. now 22 weeks and would kill for a really cold beer. have hunted for alcohol free. all i can say is that dont think it is an aussie thing! have XXXX light but its not that light and a pal has sent us a case of 12 bottles of wine and fizz. so may have a glass of that on christmas day. Latest news here is aus it fetal alcohol syndrome. call me a pesimist but how can you blame having a couple of glasses of plonk in 10 months on your badly behaved 20 year old? so everything in moderation. now will read about the pate! really really crave that badly!

macaco · 20/12/2007 10:51

After watching that programme Pissed and Pregnant the other day I'm abstaining. Not that I've ever been much of a drinker...I could take it or leave it and I think it's probably best to leave it.

piggyp · 20/12/2007 11:17

I find it's the having a drink that's nice, more than the actual drinking. Last night I had a teeny weeny glass of sherry, had about three sips and that was more than enough to make me think i was 'having a drink'. Very much enjoyed it and didn't finish it!

littlemissturquoise · 22/12/2007 09:59

Hi! I am almost 23 weeks and I have only had three glasses of wine so far. Had my first glass of red wine when I was 19 weeks as it was our anniversary (felt soooooo nervous about having it - felt like I had decided to inject myself with heroin!), then had a glass a couple of weeks later when my husband got two A's in his exams, then had my third last night as it was the end of term (I am a teacher) and the start of two weeks off, so I felt like celebrating.

So I have only had a drink for a special occasion so far. However, my friend at work who is about 6 weeks ahead of me in her pregnancy is having a glass about every week, or even two glasses, but she is, in general, more laid back than me. I have to say, with drinking alcohol during pregnancy, I could probably take it or leave it. I do plan to have a glass of champers on Christmas Day and that is it over the festive period. A couple of sips is quite nice but the rest is not that nice really! I am missing soft and blue cheese a lot more than booze really! (My same friend at work is eating soft cheese too!) I feel that I would kill for a piece of brie! Also want to say that after I had that glass of red wine last night, to celebrate the Chrimbo hols, I felt very dizzy, like I had just stepped off one of those round-a-bouts you get in playgrounds. It was quite unpleasant!
