Massive handhold needed - huge gush of blood at 10 weeks

I'm currently in A&E after having a huge gush of blood at 10 weeks pregnant. I have no cramping and it's now slowed to just spotting.

They can't scan me here so having to wait until Friday morning to find out which is going to be the longest wait ever. Still have positive pregnancy tests.

I'm being admitted for IV fluids as I have ketones in my urine and I'm T1 Diabetic.

Is there any glimmer of hope or is this it? X

I had a huge bleed at 8 weeks then intermittent bleeding for about a month. Ds is now 2. Bleeding is much more common in pregnancy than I realised at the time. Fingers crossed for you

RoseValleyRambles · 15/12/2021 23:06

I had a big bleed at 7 weeks, probably hematoma. Just had a positive 12 week scan. Good luck - the wait is horrible but there's still a chance.

scramboeggster · 15/12/2021 23:11

Big bleed with terrifying enormous clots the size of my palm at 11weeks. Blue lighted to hospital. Baby totally healthy and several years later is now snoring away next door.

My heart is with you, it's an awful wait. I hope hope hope this is your 'scary bleed at the start of an otherwise healthy pregnancy' story, and that you'll have your own snoring 6 year old soon. Thanks

NickMyLipple · 15/12/2021 23:17

Had a huge bleed at 11 weeks, was all over my shoes and everything! DD is nearly 4. Please try not to worry.

Hellocatshome · 15/12/2021 23:19

I had a huge bleed at 9 weeks, it was as if someone had turned on a tap. All was fine. Bloody nerve wracking wait for the scan though.

Tigerlily08 · 15/12/2021 23:29

Thank you all for your positive stories. I'm trying to take hope from the fact I have no cramping and the bleeding is just spotting now x

I had a huge gush at 10 weeks with clots I was convinced were the baby. Knew when I saw it there was no way the pregnancy could have survived it

But when I got scanned, there was a healthy little heartbeat flickering away, and a big sub chorionic haemorrhage

The SCH cleared up by 16 weeks, and that little flickering heartbeat is now a lovely 4 year old

Slowchimes · 15/12/2021 23:36

I had a big bleed at exactly 10 weeks op. Its really awful having to wait, I remember feeling absolutely desperate, so I really sympathise Flowers It was OK for us in the end (gynae said it was "old" blood) and dd is eighteen now. Hang in there and try and rest and distract yourself tomorrow. Can you immerse yourself in Netflix and try to put everything out of your mind until Friday morning? Take care x

Joystir59 · 15/12/2021 23:39

I hope everything is ok OP

Tigerlily08 · 15/12/2021 23:57

My mum is going to come and help me look after my little one tomorrow partly to distract me and partly to let me rest. Thank you all. I'll update you on Friday x

Me too, OP, so much blood from 10 to 16 weeks - felt nearly like my previous miscarriage. Celebrated her 19th birthday last Wednesday. So dw yet. Fingers crossed for you. Xx

RoseValleyRambles · 16/12/2021 00:09

Good luck. I had cramping too - possibly just badly timed growth cramps, not sure, so even that isn't an absolute disaster if it happens.
It's a nightmare waiting. Hang in there.

Hairyfriend · 16/12/2021 00:12

Sorry you are going through this. I can't believe the hospital doesn't have an EPU or X-ray department than could do a scan on you tomorrow, rather than making you wait till Friday!!! In saying that, I had my 3rd MC last year and they wouldn't scan me at all despite multiple calls with more severe symptoms- I MC at home.

Sorry, but you could show positive on a urine pregnancy test for weeks, so this is no indication of an immediate MC. My 2nd MC had absolutely no pain or cramps. Not common, but you don't always get pain. I know its awful not knowing, and I do hope all is well, but unfortunately its not always good news despite all the positive cases above, you need to be realistic.

Wishing you all the best though and I do hope it goes well Flowers

I had a big gush of blood at 10 weeks, to the point the midwife cancelled my booking appointment as she assumed the worst. My scan was 3 days wait, so awful and I understand your anxiety.
At the scan I found a little squiggly baby moving about and kicking around.
They have no idea why I bled, but im 21 weeks now.
Hope all goes well, fingers crossed!

Tigerlily08 · 17/12/2021 16:28

To update you all, we went for the scan this morning and the baby is fine!! We had prepared ourselves for the worst but we feel so incredibly lucky (definitely playing the Lottery tonight!)

They couldn't see any obvious reason for the bleed which is slightly disconcerting but at least we know our little one is OK ❤ thank you all so much for your support and kind words xx

Great news. I'm so glad for you. I hope you have an uneventful pregnancy from here on in!

troppibambini6 · 17/12/2021 16:42

I had exactly the same at 9 weeks with no reason behind it. Everything turned out fine with no other bleeding or problems.
Really pleased you had good news Smile

WakeUpLockie · 17/12/2021 16:43

Oh yay I'm so glad everything is OK. Before I saw your update I was going to post - I had a huge gush and clot at 13 weeks (couple days after 12 week scan, typical!). Scanned by obstetrician at A&E who also couldn't see a reason for bleeding. Few weeks of spotting, examined, cervical erosion. Now 24 weeks and have no spotting for a long long time. 20 week scan all looked perfect. Hope the same for you!

Trinacham · 17/12/2021 17:20

Pleased to read your update!

I had 2 big bleeds. One at 8 weeks (like a light period) and at 10 weeks too (this was a big gush that happened when I was asleep. Both times I'd convinced myself of the worst, but here I am still pregnant with a baby boy at 34 weeks now!

Tigerlily08 · 17/12/2021 18:40

Our first is just the most down to earth and chilled baby (shes only 7 months old so there isn't a big gap between the two at all!) We keep joking that we've been lulled into a false sense of security and our 2nd will be a devil child Grin looks like baby is starting early scaring us x

[Just sitting down for a coffee after a rather fraught hour long journey in fog, and thought I would look in to see how things were going for you op]

Oh that is such great news!!! Flowers.
Really happy for you both!

It cannot be easy being pregnant during a pandemic either, so really glad to know that all is well!

TaraSiligel · 18/12/2021 12:27

I had a SCH. OP, have they advised bed rest?

Tigerlily08 · 18/12/2021 14:21

@TaraSiligel they said they couldn't see an obvious reason for the bleed. I only saw a sonographer and they didn't say anything other than if I bleed again to try and hold out til my 12 week scan which is just over 2 weeks away. I'm not bleeding any more but I am getting period like cramps in my back which is where I always feel period pains - nothing major but just making me feel so on edge. Did you feel generally under the weather with your SCH? Not sure if I've got a bug lurking in the background or if I'm just being an oversensitive hypochondriac 🙈 x

peoniesandpastels · 18/12/2021 14:58

This happened to me with my first at around 7 weeks. Massive gush, huge clots, soaked through a pad in minutes. They couldn't tell me why either and everything turned out absolutely fine.
