Can I eat... craving all the stuff I'm not allowed

Really craving hot dogs and pâté and cocktails 😂 basically I want everything I'm not allowed to have.

Going to maybe get some mocktails for Christmas so I can have a 'drink' with the family. Is there any alternatives to pâté or hot dogs?

With pate I think it's a case of little bit is fine. It's because liver contains a lot of vitamin A, but we're allowed carrots, so it's not a complete ban on all vit-A, just be careful with quantities.

Being sensibly careful goes a long way. I've had a few bites of Brie from freshly opened packaging - pasteurised supermarket cheese that is packed well is such a minimal risk that I've felt fine with it, but I'd skip deli counter blocks that are open and cut to order. Pre-prepared salads are a bigger risk but no one tells us to avoid those.

Carrots contain Betacarotene so not the same as the Retinol form found in meat products. There isn't an issue with the betacarotene found in fruit/veg. You should limit the retinol form of vitamin A

Oh I really didn't know about the pâté being on the list due to vitamin A, I just assumed it was because the type of meat. Good to know!

Parma ham is eaten throughout pregnancy throughout Europe. Even if you’re going by NHS guidelines, it doesn’t say AVOID Parma ham etc, it says be cautious. So buying fresh, keeping it in the fridge etc is totally different to eating from a buffet or somewhere. It’s all about risk mitigation - not certain death for everyone if you eat something that’s not recommended

@Careyy

You should read "Expecting Better" by Emily Oster.

@dementedpixie Thanks, I didn't know that! Most places that mention it only say vitamin A and don't go into detail about different forms of it.

Every time I click on one of these threads it’s always about food that it would never have occurred to me not to eat (hot dogs). There was one the other day about tiramisu and cinnamon.
