How long is a 2nd baby likely to stay at 3/5 engaged?

Am 34 weeks and the GP has just told me that baby is 3/5ths engaged. I thought that 2nd babies moved into position a bit nearer the time and am now a bit worried about going early. Ds was 3 weeks late so am not quite ready just yet!!

Did he say 3/5ths engaged or 3/5ths palable? If it was the latter that means he can feel 3/5ths of the baby's head so 2/5ths are engaged. It has no real bearing on when labour will be. With my second I was engaged from 30 weeks and only gave birth 3 days early, with my first I was fully engaged from 26 weeks and she was 3 days early as well. This one at nearly 38 weeks is 1/5th engaged and will probably engage in labour.

3/5ths engaged, "quite a long way down" were her exact words.

my second was not engaged until labour came on and was 2 weeks early. i think it can vary hugely

am sorry to tell you that DS (2nd baby) was 3/5 at 34 weeks but did not come until term +13 (weighing 10 lbs 5oz)

I don't think there is any way of telling when they'll come really; the baby can be nowhere near engaged and arrive a few hours later, or you can walk around like a jockey with a bowling ball between your legs for 8 weeks (me)

I'm fine with that, I have no intention of having this baby early!!

A highly experienced midwife told me my 5th baby's head was engaged at 38+5 weeks. I told the consultant I then saw that I thought this was utter rubbish. The consultant checked and then scanned and baby was in fact breech!

34 weeks ! that is going over quickly.. how are you feeling birthwise? (tis lulu, BTW !)

my DD was 3/5 from 34 weeks, and stayed there until she was born on her due date

Hi Lulu!! Am ok thanks, am trying to just keep an open mind. Various minor things are happening that didn't happen last time (some twinges, baby was breech for a while) which just helps remind me that this is not my last pregnancy and that it could all be different this time, IYKWIM. Every little helps!
