6 weeks scan, just a sac

So I stupidly booked an early scan for today and am 6+1, they could only see the sac and nothing else.
They said everything looked good and to rebook for two weeks time which I've done.
I've had no symptoms this time round apart from a little tiredness.

I'm worried because with my first born I went for a scan and measured 6+2 and there he was with a heartbeat of 125bpm.
Does this sound like a missed miscarriage or could it really just be too early?
I've had no pains or bleeding.
Thanks 💗

Hi Smile

I had a scan just a couple of days earlier than you did and they could only see a sac. I went back a week later and things had progressed well and we could see the heartbeat!

I'm now over half way through my pregnancy and everything is going great.

You're really early on so try your best not to worry yourself. I know it's easier said! Good luck Smile

Can be absolutely fine op.
Do you know your dates or ovulation etc?
Course we don't know when implantation happens so you may be afew days out.

@dexterdexter
Thank you, yeah I'm trying not to worry myself. I've got a scan booked for 8 weeks but almost want to rebook for 7 and a half now 😂

@SleighbellsZ
I believe I got a positive opk on the 17th November so I believe I ovulated 18th. I'm not sure how to work any of it out to be honest. I'm just going by my last period date

I would hold out for your next scan.
They didn't raise any concerns and getting you back in two weeks is to see growth and HB etc.
They grow a lot at this stage in a small amount of time.
Sending love 💕

Hi @sho22... I went for a scan which was exactly 6+1 aswell (based on my last period).... and we also only saw a sac.

She said "all looks OK for 5 weeks". We said we are 6... and she didn't seem too concerned saying a few days can make all the difference.

After, the nurse spoke to us and she wanted a re-scan in a week. Although the scan relieved of us any worry of ectopic, the nurse did leave us with a "it can go either way" comment, that has really stuck in our head. Its something we knew anyway, but to hear a nurse say it probably shook us up a bit.

However, I remain confident. I believe I ovulated around day 16-17, and I didn't get a positive until 6 days after my period was due - I was negative day after due and 3 days after...

Punching in these numbers, then I may well be just 5 weeks.

Like you, no pain no bleeding. Even any signs come and go. I am worried... we did think whether we should have gone for scan at all.

driftcompatible · 16/12/2021 09:22

It could be totally fine. Things can change at that stage in a day!

This is precisely why early scans - unless medical issue or ART - are not advised. All it's done is stress you out

Wait until at least 8 weeks before a rescan to be sure on what you should be expected to see.

Good luck.

With ovulation on 18th (potentially even 19th!) You're only 6 weeks today or even 5+6 so it's normal to only have seen a sac. This is why it's not recommended to go for scans this early - don't worry about it :)

@SleighbellsZ
Thank you! Hopefully all is good 😌💗

@Jaycee5855
Ah how worrying is this?!
Why do we do it to ourselves 😂
Do you have a scan next week then? If so best of luck!
Have you had any symptoms?
Xx

@driftcompatible
Thank you!

@Juno231
Yeah that does make sense actually, I've just always gone by last period date. Thank you

If you search for her posts similar to yours you’ll see lots of worried women. Most turn out fine. I really wish they’d ban such early scans as they do seem to cause worry.

Derbee · 16/12/2021 13:15

Totally agree about early scans. They cause a lot of anxiety, and it’s usually too early to give any truly reliable or comforting information. Even with a heartbeat so early, there are so many threads here where people have gotten false hope.

Hope it all goes well for you OP, but I wouldn’t move your scan forward from 8 weeks, as that’s pretty early in itself!

Jaycee5855 · 16/12/2021 14:24

@sho22... I know, it is worrying - but I tell myself that we are in a better place from the scan than without as it showed a. I am pregnant and b. It is not ectopic. So we don't regret going to the scan as I did feel some side pains last week.
So, yes - do have a scan in a week.

The way I'm keeping positive is that I think I ovulated 3-4 days later. and on top of that my pregnancy results were negative 1 day after period was due and 3 days - and apparently they can detect 4 days before. So I'm comfortable knowing that I could well have been about 5+3, 5+4 at the scan.

I think you should be hopeful of that too just as @Juno231 has said.

On top of that, EVEN if you are 6+1... then again there is still a lot of positive stories that its OK not to see what we expected.

My symptoms are dropping off currently. but again, I'm not thinking too much into that.
