Low lying placenta at 20 week scan

Just had my 20 week scan. They found I had low lying placenta.

Very common apparently and usually moves back up.

Who's had this and had it move back up ?

It's much more likely to move up than to stay down as I understand. Should I be careful with anything like lifting or sex, to avoid bleeding ? Or is there absolutely nothing to be done ?

I've not had any bleeding so far. But of course I'm reading that tends to happen after 20 weeks.

Many thanks !

I had this, it did mostly move up but the blood vessels didn’t (vasa previa) so if it does move, they should be doing a vaginal doppler to see where the vessels are.
They will tell you if you need to be on pelvic rest or avoid baths/swimming so if they haven’t you’re fine.

Mine was rechecked at 34 weeks and had moved up! I don't remember having to avoid anything like sex but if your not sure check with your midwife x

They're barely said anything about it. Just gave me a leaflet and said if I bleed, I need to go in.

I had this with one of mine. He never moved up and I had a planned Caesarian. Oddly I never bled and they said that was uncommon.
They will keep an eye on it with your scans. Try not to worry too much.

I'm having an elective section anyway. Just by request. So I guess it doesn't change much for me. Although I would rather not bleed. That will freak me out. I wonder if I can avoid bleeding. I guess time will tell !

I have this. I'm nearly 23 weeks and never got a leaflet or any advice jsut that they would check again at 30 something weeks

Hope you don't bleed either! I'm not sure when they say bleeding whether it's more spotting or like having a period or something. But either way it's not what anyone wants when they're pregnant!

I had this (1 inch from cervix) at 20 weeks. By 36 weeks it just moved up to belly button level so no longer a problem. Luckily your uterus still has a lot of growing to do and, if you're like me, the placenta will move up with it :) good luck

I think on balance, it's much more likely to grow upwards. I think only one in 10 will stay low !

Yep mine moved, was checked at 32 week scan.

I had this. It never moved and I had a c-section at 38 weeks. I never had any bleeding or any problems though. I was scanned every couple of weeks after the 32 week scan.
