Hi all, I’m 32 weeks pregnant and for the past few days I have had the worst itching!! Not like a thrush itch, it’s not down there underneath it’s on the front pubic region?? Don’t know what it could be but it is so annoying! Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and had found out what caused it. Thanks for reading.

Do you have a history of eczema?

Lockeddownagain · 10/12/2021 21:48

There is condition called icpIntrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy (ICP) is a liver disorder which occurs during pregnancy. This condition affects the normal flow of bile. Bile acids are chemicals in the bile of the liver that help with digestion. With ICP the bile flow begins to slow down and the bile acids build up in the blood.
I had it and my baby was born early. You must call your midwife immediately mine went crazy that I didn't phone straight away

It my just be stretching out of skin as baby grows. Moisturiser is your friend if so. If it is really bad or it changes to be over a wider area it's worth calling your midwife as there is a pregnancy related condition that needs some treatment.

This. DD had it in late pregnancy and needed instant attention and monitoring. All ended well. Good luck Flowers

I had ICP when I was pregnant with my youngest. I remember being concerned about the colour of my wee and when mentioning it to the midwife they asked about itching which I had massively to but didn't think anything of it. Midwives we're great, had an early induction and DD was fine! I needed medication whilst pregnant and the extra checks ups too!

You definitely need to have your blood tested OP - my sister in law had this towards the end of both of her pregnancies and was induced at 37 weeks with both of them.
Your itch may be nothing but equally it could be the start of ICP which needs careful monitoring,

This with bells on. Go into hospital. It can be very dangerous.

Whattodonowadays · 10/12/2021 22:26

Thanks for the replies, so even if the itching is only in the one place it could still be icp? I can’t go to the hospital tonight cos I am at home with the other kids in bed. I will give triage a ring in the morning and see what they have to say.
