Chances of pregnancy when breastfeeding?

I'm breastfeeding my 4 month old, we do want another but was advised to wait 12 months due to c section
I had one period 5 weeks pp but nothing since
We had sex last week so I'm just wondering how easy it is to get pregnant when breastfeeding and when am I able to take a test if I don't get periods?

I know at least 5 friends who have fallen pregnant while breastfeeding, so it's pretty easy.

It’s perfectly possible to get pregnant whilst bf. It’s relatively unusual if you’re exclusivity bf but possible

5!!! Is that whilst exclusively breastfeeding?

I got pregnant with my second whilst still breastfeeding. 13 month age gap. It is possible.

BeautifulBirds · 10/12/2021 20:22

Lots of people get pregnant whilst breastfeeding, especially if you have had a period already.

NatriumChloride · 10/12/2021 20:22

Very possible!

If you Google it, I think le leche league has the state. Exclusively bf it is not very likely at all -especially with a young baby

I got pregnant while breastfeeding DS1, which is why there's only 16 months between him and DS2. My periods had come back at four months so we knew it could happen, but certainly didn't expect to get pregnant so fast as it had taken almost a year to conceive DS1. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect it to happen literally the first time and while still breastfeeding.

Yep very possible, I think baby has to have a 6 hour spell off the boob to be enough to trigger things off, like a missed pill.

If period has returned its very possible regardless of bf.

I've fallen pregnant twice when bfing (both times planned) and within the first cycle of trying.

Me too. First time I got pregnant after having 1 period. DD1 was only 7 months so we'd only just started weaning a few weeks before. Second time DD2 was 2 so different situation.
HaaaaaveyoumetTed · 10/12/2021 21:51

Your period returning means you can get pregnant. Exclusive breastfeeding as contraceptive is ONLY effective if ALL criteria are met - baby under 6 months, no periods, exclusive breastfeeding of no gap bigger than 4 hours in the daytime and 6 at night. No missed feeds. Most breastfeeding mothers cannot confirm all those are true.

Take a test 14 days after unprotected sex for most reliable results.

And just to add, the egg can co.e before your 1stnperiod so don't think that because you haven't had a period you haven't produced an eggSmile
