Hi guys,

Im currently 37 weeks pregnant and I'm getting the worst heartburn/ acid reflux to the point I'm nearly being sick. I try and and drink a glass of water but I find this doesn't really help. Any top tips would be appreciated SmileSmile

Gallons and gallons of milk and Gaviscon double action chewable tablets!

I've told someone this before and I know it sounds weird but watermelon! I can't stress enough how eating watermelon has pretty much completely stopped my acid reflux. It was awful before. A lady at work told me about it, apparently its a common cure where she's from

Obviously try gaviscon/rennies
Keep a food diary to see if anything in particular makes it flare up so you can avoid that if necessary
eat small meals and try not to eat late in the evening as you want you food to be totally digested before you have to lie down at night
sleep propped up if you can
I tried basically every trick in the book and nothing worked for me so I got omeprazole from the doctor which worked wonders and I only need to take it occasionally now, that was in my first trimester though so not looking forward to a likely flare up in my third!

Second the melon. I had this awfully but moved to a GERD diet and it solves most of it.

Avoid tomato like the plague!!!! No lasagnes or bolognese for you sorry

Peptac helped me...I suffered for most of my pregnancy unfortunately.

Gaviscon liquid but get the peppermint flavour - doesn't taste as bad as the aniseed one :)

mykiki · 11/12/2021 17:03

I second peptac it's great stuff - used to drink it from the bottle before bed 😂

BurningBenches · 11/12/2021 17:32

Omeprazole.. nothing else worked with mine.

BinkyRidesForth · 11/12/2021 17:49

Omeprazole! I was waking up choking every night several times a night with acid reflux and was trying to get through with gaviscon, sleeping propped up, changing meal times etc. should have asked for the omeprazole weeks earlier than I did… it’s amazing!
