Has anyone had bleeding after internal ultrasound

I'm 8 and a half weeks pregnant.
I had a small bleed over the weekend so went for another internal scan today which showed the baby is completely fine.
Since I've come home I've been bleeding. It looks like quite a lot. I've had to change my pad. It's pinkish.

Has anyone else had bleeding after an internal ultrasound and it's been ok?

Hey, I haven't had the bleeding directly after an ultrasound... But I did have bleeding just before 6 weeks and It was pinky red and quite a lot. They found a small heamatoma on the scan and put it down to that. It's since cleared up... It could be that and a coincidence that it's straight after scan? Or it defo could be cervical irritation xx

@Rachae
Because I had a bleed on Saturday, he checked today to see if there was any blood in my uterus and said it all looked clear and everything was fine.
But then it was about 2 hours after I got home that I was bleeding. It might be irritation. I also have 2 ovarian cysts that they found last week so I'm wondering if that's also a possibility?

Yes! My 12 week scan they couldn't do on the outside because of my retroverted uterus. So they went internal. I hadn't had any bleeding up to that point, except a small amount after sex at 5/6 weeks.

As I was getting ready to leave the ultrasound, the sonography said "by the way, when I pulled the wand out there was some blood, just so you're not surprised". I obviously panicked. I asked her if it was because of the scan and she said 100% that it was not, that it cannot cause a bleed. She couldn't tell me more and gave me the details for epu. I was beside myself. Went to the bathroom and there was more blood than I expected. I thought it was over.

Called the epu on the way out of the hospital and they said that because I'd just had a scan, they wouldn't do anything. They said to monitor it and if I hadn't stopped bleeding in 2 weeks to call them back. I was terrified. Again I asked if the scan could cause it and she said absolutely not. If you Google it too, everywhere says it's highly unlikely the probe will cause bleeding.

The blood thankfully dried up and turned brown that evening and was gone by the next day.

The thing that upset me the most was that they kept telling me it was not possible that it was the scan, when I knew in my gut it was. It just made me ask "well, what is it then?!". And you obviously don't get any answers.

Thankfully we've made it to 36 weeks so far with no more bleeding (touch wood) so I hope this gives you hope.

Good luck!

@Evianontoast
Thank you. That must have been so scary! It does sound like the internal scan did it when you'd had no previous bleeding apart from that very early one.

I panicked last night seeing it. It seems to have eased off a little bit so I'll see today how it is.
I'm also on blood thinning injections which may produce more blood than normal.
It's just such a worrying time.

I use progesterone pessaries with the applicator as well so wasn't sure if that could have contributed.

Yes they said it was a side effect and warned me prior that it could happen

Did they not warn you? That's awful of them

Anyway son is now nearly 13 and none the worse for my ordeal Grin

Yes, with both kids

LetsHearIt · 09/12/2021 20:45

@Theunamedcat
No they didn't say anything at all that it could possibly happen. Luckily the bleeding has stopped and today I've been fine. Thank you for your reassuring comment 🙂
