33/34 weeks and bleeding - Any experiences?

Hey,

First of all I am currently in Day Assessment Unit. I am 33+5 and last night after I got out of the bath dried myself off with a towel and noticed some white mucus and then bright red blood on the towel and smeared round my thighs. I called triage and as it had stopped I had to sit with a sanitary towel on and monitor for an hour. After the hour they wanted me to go to Day Assessment Unit to be checked by the doctor. Got there around 11.30pm and went to the toilet to find a big clot in my pad (which the nurses took) and my urine sample was red with blood. I was put on a CTG and baby was fine. Around 12/12.30 I had some period like pains. Saw the doctor at around 1am who examined me with a spectrum and said there was still dark red blood and wanted the senior consultant to see me who did and he said my cervix is closed but apparently the CTG showed some tightenings and with the period pain they kept me in overnight in case labour was imminent. Well she's still cooking! The bleeding has stopped pad/toilet wise but I'm still waiting to be checked again. The pain has eased pretty much although baby has been engaged for the last couple of weeks and keeps making me have sharp pains in my cervix. The consultant did say the bleeding could be a sign of preterm labour which could start in a few days. This is my second pregnancy, was IVF and I also lost my baby's twin at 9 weeks. Just wondered if anyone else had experienced bleeding this far on and what it meant for them?

Hoping you are ok now! I’m currently in the assessment place whatever it’s a called! I’ve been bleeding fairly heavily, was put in a monitor- baby is fine. Staying in overnight and they are giving me steroids ‘just in case’. I’m 34+2 x

@Onehotmess good luck! You're in the best place. Mine was a one off and no more bleeding since Monday. I had a scan Thursday evening and she's fine and the blood flow in the placenta/umbilical cord and around the uterus is normal. Hope same for you!

@Crazydoglady123 that’s so reassuring thank you! Obviously I was in bits at first but hospital staff are so calm and lovely!
Hoping your little one stays put then! My due date is 21st jan, but I think I’ll be having a c sec a week early as baby is measuring big & previously had EMCS. X

@Onehotmess I'm 20th Jan, 34+3 today! Have things settled now? They're usually lovely and reassuring the midwife's in the hospitals. For mine they didn't know where the bleed came from or why I bled. Have they any idea with you and is your cervix closed?

They have no idea and cervix is closed! So same I think 🙈 they have given me first dose of steroids and my test for Covid has just come back bloody positive 🙈 . I’m due observations any minute x

Hi @Crazydoglady123
i know this was a long time ago, but I just wondered what happened in the end? Did you make it to full term before labour or did the baby come early?
I am currently 34 + 2, IVF pregnancy and same situation as you describe above re the bleed. I already have a 3 year old but this is my 4th pregnancy; I have had some stressful pregnancy related things prior to this (long story), so I’m currently panicking!
Really grateful if you could let me know what happened with you.
Thank you very much

@IVFjourney12 sorry to read you’re going through this and I hope you and LO are okay! I carried to term with my LG. On having some sweeps at 40 weeks I ended up having bleeds with them so ended up back on the ward to be checked after those but the doctors seem to think my cervix was just really sensitive in the pregnancy. I ended up being induced around 41 weeks.
I’ve since had my third (2nd IVF) baby and her pregnancy I had no bleeds (albeit another stressful pregnancy as she had growth restriction).

Oh this is so good to hear that you made it to full term. Gives me some hope! And thank you so much for replying.

Hopefully I manage the same!!

Thanks again.
