Please no judgment I already feel as awful as I can feel. I wanted to know if any of you have any advice. I didn’t find out I was pregnant until closer to 7 weeks because I was getting negative tests and even confirmed negative at the doctors. I went on vacation around 6 weeks for the weekend and had a couple glasses of wine just one day and then after the vacation found out I truly was pregnant. I am now 34 weeks and everything has been so smooth this pregnancy and at her 25 week scan everything was perfect no concerns but I am still worried about fetal alcohol syndrome. I keep reading and it’s saying mixed answers about the dangers of alcohol in the first trimester before finding out you’re pregnant but I just need to read people’s personal experiences if anyone had a similar experience to me.

The more im getting closer to delivery the more I am getting worried I did any damage to my poor baby.

You didn't do any damage to your baby, you'd need to have drank a lot more to cause any harm. Your baby is healthy so no need to worry yourself over this x

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 06/12/2021 06:01

Firstly that doesn't sound like binge drinking so you have no need to worry. Secondly, if it was a one off it will have had no effect.

I very rarely drink but did so while I was on holiday on a few nights over 2 weeks. Not many but they were strong. Then I found out I was pregnant. Absolutely no damage done to my baby at all.

Please stop worrying. Your baby is healthy and wouldn't be affected by this.

FanGirlX · 06/12/2021 06:05

I went to Ibiza and drank cocktails 3 nights in a row, not knowing I was pregnant with DD. We'd been trying for 2 years and I'd given up hope. It was my last blast before fertility treatment. I was about 4 weeks pregnant. She's a happy, healthy 3 year old now.

Debroglie · 06/12/2021 06:05

There is absolutely no possibility that 2 glasses of wine at 6 weeks could cause foetal alcohol syndrome. You have not harmed your baby. Lots of women drink much more than that before finding out they’re pregnant with no ill effects. Before 6 weeks nothing crosses through the placenta anyway.

thisnthat · 06/12/2021 06:13

Honestly, having a few glasses of wine will definitely not have affected your baby. I went to a wedding and drank far too much a couple of days before finding out I was pregnant with DS2 - he is now a very fit and healthy 12 year old with no problems whatsoever. Please don’t worry!

fizznchips · 06/12/2021 06:30

I got absolutely hammered at a friend's wedding before I knew I was pregnant, my daughter is now 11 and healthy. Please don't worry xx

Mybalconyiscracking · 06/12/2021 06:33

Yep, I did a negative test on Friday, drank heavily all weekend, positive test on Monday.
Baby now very bright, very tall 16yo. Try not to worry.

Fleur405 · 06/12/2021 08:32

This literally happens all the time as people often don’t know they are pregnant at first. I was out with my friend one night and we got absolutely hammered so much so she started crying about the fact she’d been trying for 6 months snd what if she couldn’t get pregnant… turns out she already was pregnant. Her son is now 6 and absolutely fine.

winterbabyrose · 06/12/2021 09:18

I wouldn't worry at all, I drank heavily when I was about 4.5 weeks pregnant (it was my hen do and didn't know I was pregnant). Found out about 5 weeks when the what I thought was hangover sickness didn't leave.. I am now 32+1 and baby is absolutely fine, perfect scans, heartrate, movements etc throughout. I believe with the alcohol syndrome it is more from repeated exposure, rather than a one off.

TheBoots · 06/12/2021 09:27

I didn't find out I was pregnant until I was 14 weeks, and in the time before I knew I had multiple Christmas parties, New Years Eve...you get the picture! DD is happy and healthy 3 year old.

Bells3032 · 06/12/2021 09:46

I was 7-8 weeks when i found out i was pregnant. Had a lovely binge of long island ice tea two days before finding out. I told both my doctor and my midwife and both laughed and said it was fine. there's no working placenta at that stage so you can't pass on the alcohol. they're only really concerned if there's consistent binge drinking. They reassured me there was zero chance of FAS from what i had drunk. I felt so guilty as i hadn't drunk it over a year cos we were going through IVF. We had a cancelled cycle due to no response and i needed to chill...turned out my no response was cos i was already pregnant! haha!

Honestly please don't stress

IsabelHerna · 18/12/2021 18:43

Bless you, no you didn't do any harm, and congratulations on your pregnancy

GoodbyePorpoiseSpit · 18/12/2021 18:45

It’s absolutely fine. Don’t worry x

cloudtree · 18/12/2021 18:57

I got wasted on champagne the week before finding out I was pregnant with DS1. He’s now doing ALevels and predicted 3 A*s. Just relax and focus on now and not the past.

PurplePosies · 18/12/2021 19:04

Happens all the time - I was on a few weeks of heavy drinking at parties, weddings and birthdays, plus a celebration holiday when I found out! You and baby will be fine.

Puppyseahorse · 18/12/2021 19:08

This thread has reassured me so much, as I’m in the same situation as you, OP. My baby is 4 months and healthy but I keep wondering what might change in future- I’ve had enormous anxiety about it. So you are not alone.

Hohofortherobbers · 18/12/2021 19:34

They're still surviving on their yolk sac at this point, like a hen's egg. They don't tap into your blood supply for a whole yet. Stop fretting. Smile

Hohofortherobbers · 18/12/2021 19:35

*For a while yet

closingtime101 · 18/12/2021 20:08

@Decmama10 I’m in a similar position to you. Was having negative tests after negative tests and then drank heavily on the Saturday night, found out I was pregnant on the Sunday. My friend is a doctor and said that the baby doesn’t have a brain yet, so can’t be affected by alcohol. Please don’t worry xxx

Motherofcats007 · 18/12/2021 20:10

Oh I did that… literally day before I found out, was so drunk I missed my train…. Baby girl is fine and thriving at 18 months. Obvs didn’t touch a drop once I found out. Good luck with your pregnancy xx

Bunny2021 · 18/12/2021 20:20

Read Emily Oster - expecting better. It really helps understand why the advice is no alcohol - when actually some is totally fine. You won’t have done any damage.

I had the odd small glass of wine during my pregnancy and my baby is absolutely fine!

catwomandoo · 18/12/2021 20:39

I was actually drunk when I found out I was pregnant with my last child. He's over 6 feet tall now and perfect.

Small , short blasts are unlikely to be an issue. It's more prolonged, regular drinking that causes foetal alcohol syndrome. It sounds like you are a way off that.

Decmama10 · 18/12/2021 21:11

How many weeks were you when you found out and did you drink up until then?

With my 2nd I'd been TTC for 2 years...we were saving for IVF. I went away for the weekend and spent the entire weekend really drunk. My hangover hadn't passed by the Wednesday...I had irregular cycles at that stage...no idea when AF was due. Done a test the Wednesday afternoon. Didn't even tell DH I was doing one cos I never for a minute thought it would be positive. Bam...I had a really strong bfp...turns out I was 6.5 weeks. She's now 13, taller than me and a typical sassy teen. I'm sure baby will be fine
