Time off work for antenatal appointments

I know that when pregnant you are entitled to paid time off work to attend midwife appointments, scans, etc. Does anyone know how this would apply to an over the phone appointment with a consultant?
I'm due a phone call from the consultant on Friday next week any time between 9am and 1pm, and as the mobile phone signal is terrible where I work, I feel I need to be at home to take the phone call. Would this be classed as an appointment?

Can you work at home while you wait for the call? Either way I would advise any of my clients to let you work from home or stay at home in these circumstances.

Yes absolutely, they should make reasonable adjustments to enable you to take the call in private, so wfh if your job allows you to OP.

Absolutely. My work never asked for specific details anyway, in your case I would have just said I have a consultant appointment in the morning and won't be in until 2 (I can't WFH).

I'm not able to work from home. I thought about giving my work phone number but there are times throughout the day when myself and my colleagues are not close to the phone so would miss the call.

I have had to do this as a teacher (“Your consultant appointment is 10.30 but could be at any point in the day….”). I kept my phone nearby and had cover on standby for when they rang. Bit of a pain though! Our signal is fine though which helped.

Do they need to know it’s a phone appointment? Just say you have a consultant appointment - that’s the truth.

Then you can go back into work once it’s over
