Has anyone fallen pregnant straight after a miscarriage with out a period? I think I'm going mad!

Hiya so on the 15th of October I had a miscarriage at 6 weeks. I was told by the hospital it was a complete miscarriage and just to take a test after 3 weeks to make sure everything was back to normal so I took a test on the 5th of November which came back negative so me and my hubby said right that's it we will just try again!....
(After the miscarriage I bled for the 1st week) the 2nd week he was home from work so you know ((we resumed back in the bedroom)) the 3rd week was the Negative test. Anyway....
End of the 3rd week I a little pink discharge and thought to myself here we go here's my period! We went on holiday on the 8th so I took a suitcase full of tampons incase it arrived!... which it never.... so...

The 20th of November I noticed my boobs changing again and I had a big vein showing which only happens to me when Im pregnant so I took a test out of curiosity and I got a faint positive on a cheap test which surprised me and confused me at the same time.. the next day I took another which was a darker positive again on a cheap test... so took another the 22nd clear blue this time which was positive cut a long story short even yesterday's test 1st of December came back positive!

I seen the midwife Tuesday and she filed in my notes and said she wanted to refer me to a early scan so she would speak to the hospital and get back to me (I thought ill be around 6 weeks mark) anyway she said the hospital think I'm only 3 weeks pregnant! And I should retest in 2 weeks!.

Am I mad but I thought you wouldn't normally get a positive pregnancy test at 3 weeks never mind positives from the 20th-1st? And why retest in 2 weeks for????? I'm so confused 😕

Any insights would be much appreciated on this one please 🙏🏻 xx

Hello…yes, you definitely can. In fact, I could have written a post very similar to yours as it’s happened to me too. I had a miscarriage at 6 weeks on 26th October, bled for approx 1 week, HCG levels by the end of that week were below 30 and by the end of the following week I got a negative test (took one on the instruction of the EPU).

My breasts felt really tender 29 days after the miscarriage started (my cycles are normally 28 days) so I took a test and it came back positive. Based on OPK that would be 9 DPO. The lines have been getting darker ever since!

I had some light pink spotting on at 13 DPO then some brown spotting the following day. Phoned the EPU in a panic and they said they think it’s a pregnancy, nothing they can do just now, and to retest in 2 weeks and get back to them. I’ve had no bleeding or spotting since, so can only assume that was implantation.

My boobs are tender and I’m more tired than usual…but that’s it. How are you feeling?

Adele12345 · 03/12/2021 00:54

That should say the EPU think it’s a new pregnancy.

Yes, it can happen. In years of mumsnet, unfortunately many who get pregnant so soon without a period in between then MC again. I'm not saying all do, but it seems more common that way. I obviously hope not in your case.

Am I correct that you had a scan and they thought you were only 3 weeks? They'd want to re-scan, because at 3 weeks, they will barely see anything at all. They'd want to check the pregnancy is in the uterus and look for growth from the 1st scan. They might also be looking for signs that this is indeed a new pregnancy and not retained products from the last one. I know you did get a neg pregnancy test in between though.

Best of luck though and let us know how you get on. x

Yes, happened to me. Lost a pregnancy at 6 weeks, was pregnant again the following month and carried to term.
Think I got an early scan to be sure of dates though - and was quite anxious right up until 20 weeks.

Rtmhwales · 03/12/2021 01:54

Yes it can happen. I just had my MC 4 weeks ago so still waiting for my period but definitely ovulated a week ago. I had the same thing happen 11 months ago, confirmed ovulation before period. So you could get pregnant on that.

I was advised by my OB GYN not to though as the uterine lining can sometimes be too thin to sustain a pregnancy until it's had a full cycle to shed and rebuild. That being said he said that many women fall pregnant before their period and go on to have a perfectly healthy baby. Hopefully the scans clear it up.

3 weeks pregnant is only one week past ovulation for dating and I've tested positive at 7/8 DPO so I wouldn't worry there.

NatMoz · 03/12/2021 04:44

Happened to me. I'm almost 39 weeks pregnant now

RosettaTheGardenFairy · 03/12/2021 04:45

I had a MMC at 8 weeks, required DNC, and got pregnant straight away with DD who is now 3. Dating was tricky, but all else was normal.

The same thing happened to me in August. Miscarriage at 6 weeks, the hospital told me to retest in 2 weeks to check the test was negative and the miscarriage was complete. It was and I ovulated straight away (I get very strong ovulation pain so knew!!) Fast forward another 2 weeks and low and behold a positive pregnancy test! When I went to my booking appointment the midwife was adament that I was less that 7 weeks, when I knew I was nearer 9 weeks, even after explaining everything. I paid for an early reassurance scan to check the dates as the midwife booked my 12 week scan for a date when I knew that I would be well over 14 weeks. The reassurance scan told me I was 8 weeks and 6 days, just as I had thought! I had to rearrange my 12 week scan, but the dates then also matched my earlier scan (give or take a day). Currently 14 weeks and all is well so far 🙂

Hi yes I had a miscarriage on 1st September, bled for 3 or 4 days. No period for ages, got to beginning of November and I took a test which was positive. Explained I'd not had a period since MC so they took the date of that as last period for dates, went for 12 week scan and it was estimated I had fallen pregnant around 21st September, 20 days after my MC.

CopperLily · 06/12/2021 15:22

I did, and the result is now a healthy 11 year old.

MalbecandToast · 06/12/2021 15:22

She is now 7 and all was well Smile

troppibambini6 · 06/12/2021 15:23

Yep happened twice for me. They are 11 and 8 now.

arianasky · 06/12/2021 15:41

I'm going through the same thing, diagnosed MMC on 27.09 had my DandC on 01.10 been testing negative for two weeks I think I had a period around 07.11 but could've still been bleeding from the op, and tested yesterday as boobs extremely sore and I've had faint positives yesterday and today.

Rachae · 06/12/2021 15:41

Hey, yes I mc'd in October and now I'm 7 weeks pregnant without a period in between x

POPPYDay11 · 06/12/2021 19:29

Yes- had a MMC at start of year. Had surgery to remove as it wasn't passing on it's own. No period post op, but still getting positive pregnancy tests around 4-5 weeks post op and currently 37 weeks pregnant. You're actually most fertile just after a pregnancy which is why GPs, midwives and HVs are obsessed with shoving the coil/other contraception in you as soon as your newborn arrives!! Good luck OP-hope it's your rainbow x

Justbecause88 · 06/12/2021 19:39

Yes this happened to me, miscarriage in May. I ovulated pretty much 2 weeks after the bleeding stopped (confirmed with day 21 test due to concerns with my progesterone) and got a positive test a week after that! I couldn't believe it and worried for ages it was retained product. But I'm here 26 weeks pregnant now!

LindaBlinda · 06/12/2021 19:53

Yes I did.

Midwife wasn't best pleased with me. But all worked out fine.

Was a natural miscarriage at 11 weeks. Subsequent pregnancy went perfectly.

ItsJustLittleOldMe · 20/05/2022 21:05

POPPYDay11 · 22/05/2022 09:15

Thank you!!. It was a bumpy ride think the midwifes didn't quite believe me so wouldn't see me until I was over 2 months to get it confirmed

Both my younger two were conceived immediately after miscarriages. I think the progesterone left over from the lost pregnancy may have helped them stick.
