Hi, does anyone know how can I use a European prescription (Greece) in the UK?

Can the Greek doctor email across a prescription to a UK pharmacy? And if so which one?

Thank you Xx

What's it for?

dementedpixie · 01/12/2021 18:38

You'd be best to visit a pharmacy and ask them whether they will accept the prescription

I've picked up antidepressants before in the UK with a French prescription. I think it might be up to the pharmacist and whether the understand what is prescribed.

Greek prescriptions are not valid in the UK. You best course of action is to get an appointment with a gp, and ask them to prescribe something for the condition.

You were lucky. The prescription would not have been legal in the UK.

Don't know if it's changed since the whole Brexit thing but this page suggests they can be used in the UK

@Riverlee you say this pretty confidently. Are you a pharmacist? 🤔

That page was published post-Brexit and was updated this January

dementedpixie · 01/12/2021 19:16

Says last updated in February so that should be the up to date advice then?

Embracelife · 01/12/2021 19:19

It would be as private
So depending on drug might cost a lot

Thank you for your replies ladies

You used to be able to get a private prescription written in the European economic area dispensed in any member country provided it meets the legal requirements of said country.

I'm not sure since Brexit though.

dementedpixie · 01/12/2021 19:31

I've given the link that says the UK will accept them

TrufflyPig · 01/12/2021 19:34

It does need to meet the legal requirements for a private prescription in the UK though. I have refused some in the past because they didn't.

An email isn't a legally valid private prescription, you would need the original copy.
