I posted similar recently and got no replies. I'm 33 weeks with second pregnancy and my baby has been engaged a week or two now. I've said from the start I think she'll come early but midwife said subsequent pregnancies babies can move in and out from being engaged not sure!

Subsequent babies do move in and out and their engagement means nothing in terms of labour. One of mine was fully engaged for 7 loooong weeks.

My second baby was engaged from 36 weeks, was born at 41 after being induced. As pp said the head can bob in and out of the pelvis. Are you getting any other signs of labour nearing?

Baby not moving staying engaged
I'm in so much pain
Been in hospital this week with high blood pressure too

Mines definitely not moved out from being engaged yet. Apart from the sharp shooting pains I've had in my cervix at times, the biggest give away is that my heartburn has gone. I was living off Gaviscon before she engaged

mumofmunchkin · 02/12/2021 08:38

My second was engaged from 35 weeks, finally arrived at 40+2, sorry!

ShowOfHands · 02/12/2021 09:26

It is uncomfortable. DD was engaged from 31wks and didn't move a mm. A 31hr labour confirmed that she was less engaged, more wedged, head transverse and immovable. Took a CS and forceps to pull her back up and out. 14ys later, it's a bit like getting her out of bed in a morning.

Also another one who's baby was engaged rally early on and I was so convinced she was coming early. Unfortunately she was more than a week overdue and forcibly evicted via induction. Good luck!

This is my first baby but they’ve been engaged since 33 weeks. I had some contractions on Saturday but nothing much else… no sign of imminent arrival. Sadly some babies just seem to engage early 🙈

annlee3817 · 02/12/2021 09:38

My DD was engaged from 31 weeks and didn't budge until 40+5, and that was with a soft cervix 🙄

Orarewedancer · 02/12/2021 09:45

Conversely both my babies weren't engaged at all at midwife checks the day before I gave birth to them at 40 weeks. I wonder if it really means much at all in terms of predicting onset of labour.

Head being engaged isn't a sign of imminent labour but is uncomfortable. As pp have said when it's not your first the head can bob in and out.
