Hi everyone, I did not think I could feel any more anxious than I do but here I am. I am in early stages of pregnant 4 weeks and 2 days and just received my smear test result which says they have detected HPV but no abnormal cells which they checked for. I have to back in 12 months for another smear. Will this impact on my pregnancy? I just feel like everything is going to go wrong Sad

I have HPV with no abnormal cells. I’m 23 weeks now and it’s only come up once when asked by consultant when my last smear was. Upon telling about HPV the consultant just said to have a smear after pregnancy and didn’t seem overly concerned or suggest anything else.

So make sure you book the smear after pregnancy and try not to worry. Maybe have a chat about it with your midwife when you book in.

You should ask your midwife about HPV - have you self referred yet if you are only 4 weeks? You should get a booking appointment arranged for around 8-10weeks and i think there's a question about it when the midwife takes your medical history so you can discuss it then.

For your follow up smear, i think the guidance is to wait until you are at least 3 months post partum. Mine was due when i was 15weeks pregnant and i had to wait until just recently to have it done.

I've got my first midwife appointment next week so it is on my list. I've had the highest grade abnormal cells in the past so totally panicking now I've just received this. Thanks

That's reassuring thank you
