Sweep/Induction? 40 weeks?

Hi,

I'm currently 38 + 3 weeks.

My midwife has said at my 40 week appointment we can arrange a sweep and then at 41 weeks we can look at induction.

I'm really struggling and absolutely fed up of being pregnant and suffering with SPD and unable to eat most foods.

Does anyone know if you can have a sweep before 40 weeks or if its best to wait?

I don't want to intervene too soon and cause harm to baby or myself.

Any advice welcome 😊

I had my first “sweep” at 40+3, cervix’s nowhere near ready and midwife couldn’t do it. Second one this morning, still less than ideal cervix but a lot better than last week. Trying a sweep too early is pointless from what I’ve read & been told, you can always ask them to check if you’re ready and get your Bishops score - I think over 8 for an induction is ideal.

Good luck!

Today is 40+9*

@Stressymcstress thank you!
I think I'll try and hold out until 40 weeks 😊

Fingers crossed not much longer for you 🤞

I'm 41 weeks and had a sweep last night she couldn't reach my cervix as baby's head was so low so didn't quite go to plan 😟

Baby’s head was too low? I didn’t even know that was possible.

Fingers crossed you’re not waiting too much longer!

I didn't either, she said my cervix was tucked up behind her head and couldn't reach 😩 going back Thursday for another try

I was offered a sweep at 40 weeks but baby came at 39+5

Sorry, hadn't finished before posting

Hopefully you might not need one Smile

Had a sweep at 39 about 1pm, I had been 2cm dilated from 36+4, she was able to give a good stretch and sweep to 3-4cm baby arrived 19.11 the following day. Do think my body was ready just needed a friendly push. You can always ask to see if they will. If your cervix is favourable then might help you along but if it still high and long and not soft prob not worth her trying, so if the midwife is agreeable she may examine you to see if a sweep would be worth a go
