My baby has a big head and tummy, 97th at 21wks HELP!!!

At my 20 week scan the sonographer told me that I would have to return at 28 wks for re scan for growth. What does this mean? will I have to have a C section if hospital thinks baby too big? I am terrified of a c section. Have had 1 baby before 9lbs 2 oz but only 60th for head. Nobody told me he would be big and I had a great birth, 6 1/2 hours with only 1 1/2 hour pushing, I don't want a c section but don't want to harm my baby.

Please if anyone has had experience of v birth with big head, re assure me!!

It's normal for growth scans to be out by 10 per cent either side - and up to 20 per cent. So please don't worry even if it does come out big! My sister was told her baby was massive (gestational diabetes) and actually she was 7lbs something, the smallest out of all us sisters' babies.

If you've given birth to a big baby before, I really would try not to worry too much - second and subsequent births are usually easier anyway as your body has been battered into submission by teh first baby (cervix never completely closes again).

My ds2 had a big head! Somewhere on 90th percentile. Was fine! Slight tear, nowhere near as bad as ds1 (ventouse!)

Agree with edam - 2nd baby much easier.

Can't stop thinking about c section!! My worst nightmare, I want to be able to hold and feed my baby straight away!!

my second baby had a big head and tummy at 20 week scan too. my first was 9lb 1, and I was "warned" about having a big baby.
number 2 arrived weighing 9lb 5 and with a head circumference of 37.5cm
6 hr labour, 1hr 20 min pushing- but only because he was OP.
it was fine- honest.
I had a teeny tear that they gave me one stitch for lol.

What is OP? I had 16 stitches with 1st as he was born, what I think is referred to as, "superman style". I wasn't traumatised! Only cos I couldn't wee for 2 days and had to have a catheter!!

At a scan at 34 weeks I was told dd's head was the size of a 42 weeker. I was petrified! She was born at 38 weeks and her head was on the 25th centile so don't panic. I was also told she had a massive belly and she did, much bigger than her head!

Cor that must have hurt, have a friend who's baby was back to back and she said it was agony and her baby was only 7lbs!!

DS1 (my first baby) had a 37cm head, he was back to back as well. Labour lasted 12 hours from first twinge to baby in arms. No pain relief. I had a 2nd degree tear, but went on to have DS2 (35cm head iirc) with only a small internal tear.

Oh, DS1 was 8lb 10oz and DS2 8lb 1oz.

DD was on 97th for tummy as well. Was scanned few extra times at end of pregnancy. She was born at home in the bath and all was fine (she did get stuck with her shoulders but MW and I discussed this beforehand and I asked her to pull DD out which worked fine)

Didnt even have tears or stitches.

Hope it works out fine for you as well but just see what the advice is.
