Scant brown discharge after spotting

Morning all.

I've just begun my 16th week of pregnancy. Until yesterday, I have suffered no bleeding whatsoever. Then yesterday, I had a a very light pink discharge in the morning and since then I'm getting a very scant and intermittent brown discharge. No cramping though a very light tightening in my uterous. My last scan was at 13+6 days when the baby was fine and healthy. I haven't had sex and no internal examinations. I am wondering that the discharge is due to increased blood flow and more dramatic growth spurt of baby in the early second trimester.

I will call my hospital tomorrow (Monday), but has anyone else had these symptoms in 2nd trimester and is it nessarily a precursor to miscarriage?

Thanks,
Orissia

You should call the hospital now.

Hi Cornsilk, I just called the on-call midwife and she said it's up to me what to do. She said it's common but if I need my mind put at rest then to go to A&E, It's not painful and it's not red blood so she said I could call in tomorrow (Monday) for a scan. The bottom line is no one ever knows what it can be but would love to hear other people's 2nd trimester experiences of non-painful brown discharge. O

That sounds reassuring. Hope everything turns out okay tomorrow. x

Hello all.

I went into the labour ward this morning before work (8am - eeek!) to get checked out. The doctor and midwife (at UCH, London) were terrific. They took a scan and saw the baby was fine and that no bleeding was coming from the placenta. They then did a vaginal exam and discovered I had thrush which was causing the irritation of my cervix and vagina. They put it down to the antibiotics I look last week for a urinary tract infection. They gave me medication and sent me off to work alot calmer. Phew! Hope this thread helps some of you going through a similar problem.
