Hi ladies, one of you must of had experience of this.

Im 34 weeks pregnant, baby is very low 2/5th's , and my first son was born at 35 weeks. Should i be on my guard or does it not necessarily mean anything will happen yet?

I don't think it's a sign that anything is imminent, but I'm not certain (this is my first...)

I'm 37+3 and was 3/5 at 36 weeks... not ready for the big day yet so I'm hoping that I'm right about this!

Hope you hear from someone wiser, I'll be interested to hear what they have to say

I don't have any experience of it, but it does look like something you should keep a close eye on. Did your midwife/GP say you were 2/5th engaged? What was their advice?

leesmum · 16/12/2007 12:57

Hi chunky and ten, it was Midwife who said i was 2/5th's, She asked if my bag was ready (it is) and to get a move on if my waters go early again.

With Ds my waters went and by the time i got to hospital i was 7cm and had no pains until i was examined, son was born about an hour later.

Well, I think that's your answer then! Is your bag packed?

Good luck!

chunkypudding · 16/12/2007 14:10

blimey, my midwife didn't say anything to me really, just that the head was quite firmly in my pelvis (after some v uncomfortable poking!)

Only know the 3/5ths bit from looking at my notes afterwards...

my bag isn't packed, still in the process of moving into/decorating our new house, haven't even managed to have my 1 NHS labour/pain relief class yet as it has been postponed to the 21st... by which time I'll be 38+1... and not seeing midwife again til xmas eve when I'll be... ummm... 38+4 (for some reason there is a 3 week gap between my midwife appointments, thought they'd be closer together by this stage!!!)

ooo think I'm having a panic!

although if I have a first birth like yours, leesmum, sounds like a good one....

foundthis thread

has calmed me down a bit.

imagine your mw is very much going by your history leesmum. so I'm still none the wiser!

minspugs · 16/12/2007 15:07

mine both started to engage early on but i still went a day over (with both) dd2 engaged sooner and was fully engaged for about a week before i had her. id be prepared but try not to worry about it

LOONEYplayingachristmasTUNEy · 16/12/2007 18:46

No idea but be prepared just in case. A mindee of mine was born 8 weeks early and her mum suspected number 2 would also come early and she did, at 5 weeks early.

littledetails · 16/12/2007 20:12

Just checked my notes, my baby has been 2/5 since 29 weeks and im now 39 weeks but it was also free at 32 weeks. It just means that 2/5 of the babies head is in your pelvis but I think until its 5/5 the head can go in an out of your pelvis so I wouldnt panic.

Oh and I have a week to go and my bag isnt packed!

leesmum · 16/12/2007 20:36

i've just read that thread chunky, and i suppose no-one knows what will happen for sure.

Thanks for all your replies and good luck to those who havent got long to go.xxx

IIRC I walked around like this from 37 weeks onwards. I'm sorry let me correct that, I walked around bloody painfully from 37 weeks onwards. For nearly 5 weeks. I sincerely hope it is quicker for you! ]
