Hi just wondering weather anyone has been prescribed this spray I went and got my ear micro suctioned today and the women said both of my ears are badly infected! And for me to call my GP and get antibiotic spray ASAP so I did but my doctor has prescribed me Otomize I’ve sprayed in each ear and when I googled it says not to use while pregnant and I’m now going out of my mind 😰 I’m currently 33 weeks pregnant too I rang the pharmacy to see what they think and he said it’s not to be used in pregnancy and to not use it again and to contact my GP in the morning for something different that I can take whilst pregnant I did think of reading the label as I just trusted my GP they know I’m pregnant so why would they even prescribe me this plus I’m in absolute agony and have been for a week and I’m just willing to try anything to take the pain away literally can not deal with this any longer x

Can you call 111 for advice, I have otomize spray regularly as get a lot of ear infections and pretty sure I would have had to use it when pregnant, as I get eczema in my ears and it sets it off

BellaNutella88 · 26/11/2021 07:36

I’ve just finished a week of using Otomize spray. I am in very early pregnancy but my doctor specifically checked and didn’t give me oral antibiotics. Not that it’s helped. The pains gone but I still can’t hear and I now have tinnitus.

Lo12345 · 26/11/2021 09:34

Hi thanks for relying I did ring 111 and pharmacy and they said it should not be taking during pregnancy because it can cause complications 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’m waiting on my GP to call me back this morning I’m a worrier and soon as 111 said that I’ve not touched it since but I’ve been death for a week with this ear infection so I could do with taking some sort of antibiotic that’s safe for me @BellaNutella88 sorry to hear you have blocked ear and tintus it’s the worst thing when something happens with your ears I’ve never had ear infection Before if I was you go and pay to have your ears micro suctioned it’s the best thing to get your hearing back you may have a wax buildup I paid £40.00 private for both ears as NHS waiting list is weeks and weeks away can’t wait that long x

Thanks for the update @Lo12345. Bit worried now that they gave me the spray but I’ve finished using it now so hopefully it’s ok. I’ve spoken to a doctor and apparently it’s normal to have this afternoon an ear infection. I’ve never had one either so who knew !

Thanks for the tip I may try that. I’ll do anything for the ringing to stop !

Hope your ear infection clears up quickly xx

I’ve just finished a course of otomize too, my pharmacy said ok when pregnant, so confused. I get a lot of ear infections so had it before. Tintus is quite common after, it’s the fluid behind the ear drum.

BellaNutella88 · 26/11/2021 11:40

@Em39ma good to know I’m not alone ! How long does it take to go? I saw the doctor today and he said my ear is still red but not leaking so it’ll take a while for the blocked feeling and tinnitus to go. Doing my head in ! The dr said there are no guarantees with anything in pregnancy but the spray is localised to the ear so it’s safe to use as far as they are concerned. Im allowed to use it for another week but I’m not going to as not in pain anymore and will see what happens ! Hope yours clears up soon too.

Lo12345 · 26/11/2021 22:47

@Em39ma how many weeks are you if you don’t mind me asking ? My GP rang me today and said he thinks it will be okay as it’s very low dose and it’s really good to get rid of ear infections x

I get ear infections every few months. I do usually get anti biotics but the thing I think helps the most (and certainly eases the pain most) is vicks on cotton wool and put that in your ear. Honestly it’s instant relief and it heals infection quickly

Em39ma · 27/11/2021 07:57

@Lo12345 I’m 36 weeks, so I’m sure I will be fine.

CucumberCool · 27/11/2021 09:14

I'm 29 weeks, and used it yesterday.

It doesnt say 'do not use' it says 'check before use'.

Gp and pharmacy said it was fine. Your spraying it in your ear, not drinking it. Smile

Otomize for ear infection while pregnant
JaninesEyePatch · 27/11/2021 09:18

I used this while pregnant. I also took a couple of other medications that weren't to be used in pregnancy. I asked the doctor and they basically said that very few medications are licensed for use in pregnancy because it would be unethical to test them on pregnant women. But she was confident that otomize being a topical solution should be fine. Obviously it's up to you to weigh up the risk vs benefit but I'd rather have this than oral antibiotics. Hope that helps and hope your ears are better soon x
