Anyone had growth stopped between 36-38 weeks

I went for my 38 week midwife check today and I haven’t growth at all since 36 weeks (previously plotting way above 95th centile line with a mega bump!). She didn’t seem concerned but has referred me for a growth scan in two days...by which time I’ll have gone mad and stressed myself out I think!

Has anyone had this? She had a trainee midwife measuring me both times so I’m praying it’s inaccurate or nothing to worry about. Really don’t want induction or c-section but obviously will do whatever they advise

I had growth restriction with my DS. His growth had stopped around 34 weeks. I had a growth scan as midwife said I was measuring far to small (this was at 37 weeks). I was 38+5 weeks when I got my growth scan and The scan showed my son had a very small abdominal measurement. I was then put in for induction for 39+5days. He was born on his due date and weighed 5lbs 11 and was 49cm.

This was my experience, but I do know that alot of women go for growth scans and baby ends up measuring completely spot on for what they should be. We all carry differently so try not to panic ❤️

Thanks @Blxo94 I’m glad to hear your son was ok in the end! I think I’ll feel better once I know either way it’s just awful being in limbo..I’ve read some some previous posts where people have said if baby engages this can reduce bump size so I’m hoping that’s the case..at least they’re monitoring it if not though.

Hi @Ell9655 funnily enough I had the exact same thing yesterday at my midwife appointment. I am 37 weeks today and have consistently been measuring just above the 97th centile and yesterday's measurement put me down to the 90th centile with no growth over the past 2 weeks. I don't have my growth scan until next Friday but like you my midwife didn't seem too concerned and just said let's see what happens at the scan. She has previously said to me that the measurements aren't always very accurate but doesn't stop you worrying though does it. Are you still feeling plenty of movement?

Yes, I was induced for static growth. I was having regular growth scans for various reasons.

If it helps to hear it, my DS stopped growing from 36 - 38 weeks. May have even lost a little weight. I was induced just before 39 weeks. It was impressed upon me he would be better out than in at that point and leaving him in presented risk, but it was no big drama (and only a small rush - I went back two days after the scan) and he’s been totally fine. Quite skinny and sleepy at birth but just fed him lots and lots and it was all ok.

Has baby's head engaged? Could just be where the bump has dropped a bit due to baby moving down ready for labour. If baby is moving ok I wouldn't worry too much.

Was it a fundal height measurement op? If so those are notoriously inaccurate.

Have you had a growth scan this pregnancy at all? They wouldn’t be able to diagnose IUGR from one scan alone, they’d likely have to do one wait 2 weeks and then a follow up. Especially if arterial dopplers are normal.

I’m finding induction is pushed a lot, it seems to be on the up and a lot of it unnecessarily so.

As an FYI Clinical guidelines are that babies between 3-10 th centile (who haven’t had a massive shelf off in growth and who have normal arterial dopplers) are considered to be constitutionally small aka healthy but petite and mums are to be offered (not recommended) and induction at 39 weeks. Babies under 3rd centile there tends to be a more pathological cause for the smallness so the goal there is to get baby to term 37 weeks if possible.
