Pregnancy tests, false positive/evaporation lines

Hi there,

I was wondering if anyone could help me with this, i did a clear blue test 6 days ago just as a routine thing as with my contraception i don’t have periods, and it was negative i checked it until about 6 mins after and then came back to it a couple hours later and it was positive (top of the image). I then did a digital later on in the day which was negative and then another clear blue the next day which was negative until just after 10 mins where it began getting a line from the bottom to the top (second test). I have since done 2 other digital tests, 2 morrisons tests, and 2 FRER tests all coming back negative. Could anyone tell me if i need a blood test or whether these are evap lines/false positives please? (not a planned pregnancy at all haha!) Attached an image of the tests.

I would say they are evaps/negative as they appeared outside of the timeframe and clear blue are well known for doing this. Try another FRER in a few days if your still unsure. Not sure what result you wanted but I hope it works out which ever way for you xx

I’m really sorry Flowers

I have recently learned that Clear blue is notorious for false positives. For my own experience I had a vv strong positive, within the testing window, on clear blue a few months ago. Because of a medical condition I had bloods taken the same day. There was no sign of a pregnancy no hcg or progesterone. The blood tests were done the same morning as the hpt so it’s not like I had a chemical pregnancy.

I googled a bit and found so many similar stories from other women :(

That’s so bad! I can’t believe how common it actually is, specifically with clear blue!

I have decided to have a blood test done as i have bad health anxiety so want to completely rule out the chance of a pregnancy (even after 10 negatives !) but you never know. But now so stressed about that as not very good with blood! Not using clear blue again haha

Hi!

Also not sure how to interpret my pregnancy test results. My periods are irregular so really tricky to know when to start testing. Was predicted AF would start yesterday (25th Jan). I’ve been testing for the last 4 days and the lines don’t seem to be getting much darker. I’ve been having cramps and feel bloated. Worried I’m getting lots of false positives! What do you think from the photos? All photos taken within the time they should be (eg within 3-10 mins or at 5 mins). Also scared of the FR tests as heard of horror stories about false positives. I have a history of ovarian cysts but on my last scan none were seen so hopefully it isn’t down to that. Going to keep testing but driving myself a bit mad! Any thoughts would be great 😊

@Totoro1234 those are positive! Smile

That's so shocking re clear blue..

ChloeHel · 26/01/2022 21:56

I’m not sure what is happening with clear blue at the moment, when I used a pack recently they already had a line across them before even using them! They definitely look like evap lines. Stick with FRER, they seem much more reliable and not many stories of evap lines with them :)

Totoro1234 · 26/01/2022 22:36

Do you think my clear blue looks like evap lines? I’ve done a couple that appear to be positive. They appeared within 3 mins too. I’ll keep going with the FR tests and have a digital clear blue which I’ll do on Friday.

ChloeHel · 27/01/2022 09:36

@Totoro1234 oh no; yours is definitely a positive! The evap lines on the clear blue look blurry and thin on one side. Your FR tests are also positive :) congratulations!

Totoro1234 · 27/01/2022 17:06

Okay so these are the last 4 days tests. All taken first thing in the morn. There is a slight stronger gradient but this mornings seems a little lighter than yesterday morning Confused I feel like it’s just a waiting game/ I’m not allowing myself to get excited. Period was due roughly 2 days ago (I have irregular periods so hard to gauge). Any thoughts? Sorry, this is all very new to me!

@Totoro1234 you are definitely pregnant looking at those tests! Get a clear blue digital. As soon as you see the word pregnant you’ll be excited. I just did mine today at 13DPO with a nice pregnant sign, so now it feels even more real.

Totoro1234 · 27/01/2022 17:54

Thank you! Got some digital tests and will do one in the morning Smile was just concerned about faint lines and them not getting noticeably stronger despite being overdue my period now. I just need to try and be patient and positive!

ella84736907 · 29/01/2022 00:39

Hiya, since the first response ones are showing up i reckon they might be positive, but they also look slightly like evap lines as they don’t have colour. Did the lines appear within the time frame?

sorry didn’t see your message after ignore my question !! they look positive x

Totoro1234 · 29/01/2022 07:46

Hi, sorry was this message for me? Yeah the results started to showy faintly within the timeframe and then have become a bit more distinct. I know with FRER if positive the result should last at least 48 hours. Just done another clear blue and positive but faint still. Going to do a digital test when my partner is back tomorrow. Just wishing for that big fat positive!!!!!

ella84736907 · 30/01/2022 00:12

I have high hopes you’re going to get that soon! I never had a false positive on first response ones and now i only use those! The fact you’re getting a result within the time frame is very positive news
