Can the First Trimester really be this bad???

My first pregnancy I had ongoing nausea and I do remember feeling pretty lousy but this time it’s on another level.

I am nearly 11 weeks now and have felt like this for about 4 weeks.

I’m sleeping 10 hours at night. But in the day I am just absolutely exhausted. My whole body just aches. All I want to do is lie down or sit. The effort of just standing up is just so difficult. I’m finding it hard to look after my toddler! I have to really force myself just to go on a small walk with her. When I get her down for a nap I just wipe out on the sofa. I don’t necessarily sleep, but my heart is pumping and I’m just so exhausted. My blood pressure has always been on the low side of normal and as I understand it, the first trimester your blood pressure drops further as your body needs to create more blood or something. But why wasn’t I this bad last time?
I can’t summon energy to clean dishes. Just thinking about what to make for dinner is a massive task. I’m just not coping at all with day to day life and I’m just holding onto the hope that this will end soon as I get into the second trimester.

Was anyone else affected this badly??? I also have the ongoing nausea all day long like last time. I gave in this time and asked the gp for help and they gave my cyclizine which made no difference whatsoever so I’ve just given up taking it.

I just don’t even have the energy to contact a gp again. Being on the phone on hold for 40 minutes and then trying to fight for an appointment with a receptionist is just impossible right now

Yes I've felt like this second time around. I also was pretty anaemic so get your iron levels checked.

My second pregnancy was way worse than my first. Hang in there and give yourself a break as much as possible!

MsSquiz · 21/11/2021 16:28

Yep, my nausea this time round only disappeared at 17 weeks and I lost a stone in weight in 8 weeks as the nausea made it so difficult for me to eat (although I was never actually sick!)
I also had horrendous sinusitis and then a chest infection and I'm permanently knackered!

It definitely wasn't this bad first time round with dd!

I feel like the second pregnancy is definitely harder! I was so sick this time around and the exhaustion just started getting better last week at 25 weeks 😩

Anon0707 · 21/11/2021 16:33

I struggled in my first pregnancy constant nausea that would even wake me up in the middle of the night. The exhaustion was another level, I’d literally be falling asleep standing up. It was such a lonely time. Luckily it eased off by week 12/13 and by the time I was 21 weeks I didn’t even feel pregnant anymore. So there is hope and hopefully you’ve only got another week or so before you start feeling better.
It might be worth getting your iron levels checked though. I had anaemia and the Mw said it’s no wonder you’ve felt so rough, so just something to keep in mind

I’m almost weeks atm and from 4 to 12 I felt as you have described but tbh I couldn’t look after my son my mum has been amazing every one of the days my husband was at work. I couldn’t eat, could hardly get up off the sofa, had terrible headaches, crippling nausea (but wasn’t sick thank goodness) heart palpitations, tiredness like I’ve never known. It’s was quite simply the worst I have ever felt in my life apart from possibly when I had glandular fever. And it went on and on and on. I thought it would never end. I’m so sorry you feel like this hopefully it will pass, I’ve been feeling so much better lately it’s such a relief. My little boy kept asking me if I wanted calpol! Flowers

Yes!!! Me too.

This is my second pregnancy. I’m only around 5 weeks. I can’t remember the first one being like this. I’m bloody exhausted.

PregnantAgainOhMy · 22/11/2021 20:56

Oh thank you everyone for all your responses. It definitely calms me down a bit that others have experienced it this badly! Gosh I seriously don't think I could cope all the way to week 25! I am seriously praying on only a couple more weeks. If I had no toddler or work responsibilities I would genuinely not leave my bedroom. This is the worst I have ever felt in my life. I know I have a toddler class tomorrow and that 20 minute walk just seems impossible.

Years ago now but my second was not that different. It sounds quite extreme to me - worth seeing a doc perhaps if you're able to summon energy?? Are you due a midwife appt soon too? Poor you OP. Sounds tough!
