Mass on ovary

I'm 6weeks pregnant and had an early scan today. Everything looked fine apart from a "solid mass" on my left ovary.
Has anyone had this? Did it cause problems?

Have they said what the mass is?

I think every pregnant woman has it - it’s the corpus luteum and will provide the hormones until the placenta takes over.
I didn’t realise either that there are different types of pelvic sonographers and that some won’t have a clue what they’re looking at if it’s not their area of speciality.

As SweetBaby says it could well be the corpus luteum - essential for pregnancy. Could also potentially be a dermoid cyst - these are made up of solid matter but are benign. What did the sonographer say, will they just watch and wait? Try not to worry as if it is the corpus luteum it should disappear at about 14 weeks when the placenta takes over. A dermoid cyst may potentially need to be removed surgically depending on size & medical advice. This could happen after the pregnancy.

Thanks all, I'd never heard of that before.

No. They didn't say what it was. I'm just worried it's something serious or will affect the baby.

It just sounds worse than a normal cyst.

I think you need to find out what it is. There’s a whole spectrum from completely normal to massive problem. I imagine that, if it was a problem you would have been referred there and then. And, whilst it’s probably completely normal, you need to check that. I would contact the hospital who scanned you and ask, just to put your mind at rest Flowers
