Hello all,

I'm new to this so I hope I can figure out how this all works.

I would normally speak to a doctor however I'm having a bit of issue due to some technicalities. I've turned here for some advice.

After a year and a half I finally fell pregnant (I experienced one chemical pregnancy two months ago) I'm currently 5 weeks and 1 day pregnant and I'm experiencing two things that have been worrying me.

One is the fact that I'm cramping. It can feel like my normal pre period pains. It doesn't last long but when it happens it's extremely noticeable. Ive had this for the last week and have noticed that they come on when I need to go to the toilet. In addition, for the last two days I've had sharp pains on the far right side of my uterus where I'd expect my ovary to be. Is this normal?

The other worrying thing which is a bit more shallow however due to my personal anxiety and body issues I've noticed that my stomach is showing. I kept putting it down to the fact that I'm bloated however I don't think that's it. It looks like I've put on weight to a point where people have noticed. I'm generally a slim person. I'm concerned I'll put on too much weight and cause health problems for myself, the pregnancy or the baby. Has anyone experienced this weight gain so early on? When is it normal to start showing?

Morning. I cramped on and off all through the first trimester. Bloody scary but I put it down to things expanding.

And I remember buying maternity leggings at just 8 weeks because I was so uncomfortable in normal clothes. It is probably partly in your head (as it was for me) and partly bloating. It's not baby yet and, unless you've been on take always all day every day, it's likely not linked to weight gain yet.

Good luck - it's so exciting! But I will say the first trimester was the toughest for me and don't let anyone tell you it's not hard or "just you wait!"

Hi, I was extremly bloated and constantly cramping now 30 weeks. It's all those hormones try not to worry, totally normal.

I was the same OP! Period like pains all through the first trimester and I have a very slim waist so from around 6 weeks jeans/button up trousers didn’t fit & by the evenings I looked like I had a bump. I did show properly (not bloat) really early but six months in everyone comments how small I am for where I am at so it’s evened out! It’s different for everyone - I’ve had friends who were 20 weeks and still in their normal jeans.

@Evianontoast @Angeldelight21 @Amtheyest17 thanks everyone that helps. I'll try my best not to over think things but it's so hard.

I normally share my anxiety with my best friend but I'm trying to keep this big secret until 12 weeks. It's so hard but it will be well worth it!

This sounds totally normal to me. I’m 32 weeks and found I put on the most weight in the first trimester!! I was so bloated at the start. Your body will change so much so just try and go with the flow on that! Also cramping throughout is normal. Muscle twinges etc as your body adapts. Congrats xo

Hi OP, the only thing that stood out to me and you may want to mention to your doctor/midwife is the sharp pain on one side. I don't mean to scare you but that could indicate an ectopic pregnancy. I'm had one on the past. I sincerely hope it's just nothing but I think this could be worth bringing up.

Fishbaby · 21/11/2021 05:51

Pains normal. Are you a bit constipated? Might be why it's happening as you are taking to the toilet.

It is more likely bloat. I grew out of my clothes at 7/8w pregnant. And frankly, your bump early pregnancy may just look liked you've put weight on rather than an actual bump. Doesn't mean you have put on extra weight though. Just distribution!

@laalaaleelee thank you I'll definitely be speaking to the doctor to get it checked out

@Fishbaby I have been a bit constipated. My toilet habit have completely changed since becoming pregnant. Thanks for your reply
