26weeks pain in right abdomen

So I've been experiencing some strange pains over the last few days, any ideas what it could be ? I've scheduled a call with my GP on Monday but wondering if anyone has any ideas?

The pain is like stretching / burning at the top of my right abdomen near my rib... it's constant! But is much worse when putting pressure on it.

I also have had pretty bad nausea which is something I haven't had in this pregnancy so far!

I've also been feeling a little dizzy / faint. Yesterday was much worse than today but I still didn't feel right.

And finally I've been sweating tonnes!!

My blood pressure is higher than usual, but I am being monitored for this, but my next appointment with the specialist midwife isn't until 6th December.

Any ideas what might be going on with me? I've been googling it but I can't figure it out 😣 x

Are you able to call your maternity triage? I don't want to worry you but the pain under your rib can be a sign for pre-eclampsia. (I too had hypertension in my last pregnancy and I also had this pain under my ribs, though did not develop pre-eclampsia so there's every chance it isn't!) but please get it checked sooner rather than laterThanks

It's probably nothing but I would really not wait until Monday. Call your midwife or even 111 for medical advice explaining your symptoms. I would also imagine the doctor wants to examine you so a phone call isn't very useful. X

I have this pain (was checked by triage and confirmed it was muscle pain/stretching) however because it is a symptom of pre eclampsia you should phone triage tonight for their advice.

I had preeclampsia in my previous pregnancy, it's honestly the worst thing I've been through so please do be checked!

Thanks everyone, I really didn't think it was preeclampsia, but I will definitely get it checked out sooner than Monday! I'll give the on call midwife a call.

Fingers crossed it's not preeclampsia, I'm at high risk of getting it as my mum has it with both her pregnancies! 🤞

Updates - I called the midwife triage, they told me to call the gp and say I have to be seen today with suspected gallbladder problems.

When I went in to see my gp late today, they said it's most likely a pulled muscle and refused to do any further tests.

Unfortunately they won't help anymore, and I'm in absolute agony, which is much worse than it was yesterday!

They wouldn't even test my blood pressure!!

Op I've been in hospital the past 48hrs with severe upper right stomach pain. Burning like hell. I was double over with pain. Docs thought gallstones initially but then diagnosed oesaphagitis and have been prescribed medication for the rest of pregnancy. Blood pressure, temperature and blood were taken for infection markers. I really suggest you get those done.

toadstool32 · 19/11/2021 20:28

I'm 25weeks btw

babyjenks93 · 19/11/2021 21:31

25wks and I'm in agony as well. Pre-eclampsia excluded as I have normal BP, doctors suspect gallstones. I am going for an ultrasound on Monday 😪😪😪

Matilda128 · 19/11/2021 22:06

@dg93 your GP sounds horrible! A pulled muscle doesn't start hurting more. Please call 111 they will give you advice and perhaps tell you to go to the hospital. I hope you feel better soon xxx

Please can I ask, what your symptoms were? I've been testing the waters a bit today, and eating fatty foods and waiting to see if it makes the pain worse, which is 100% did! I've found that if I put my hand where the pain and put slight pressure it relives a lot of the pain, is this something you've experienced too?

I've sent a heavily worded email to my doctors surgery practically begging for further testing as the pain is really unbearable after eating. If they refuse to help again I will call 111 tomorrow as I feel like this needs looking into asap.

I do have a consultant appointment coming up as I'm classed as high risk but it's not for a couple of weeks, and I'd ideally like help way before then! X

Ok, so I wanted to give an update incase anyone comes across this in the future with the same issues!

I ended up calling 111 and having a paramedic out on Monday (I think) and he ran some tests and said it was definitely gallbladder related. I then drove myself to a&e, spent 3 hours having numerous tests done, to rule out anything else and was confirmed it was definitely gallbladder related, and they booked me an appointment the following day at another hospital to see a surgeon to have further tests done.

I saw the surgeon the following day and was asked to return a day later for an ultrasound. I was told the ultrasound may not show anything, but they'd like to see if I had stones or not.

The scan went ok, but didn't show anything. I was told this is fairly normal and I was just put on a prescription to get rid of acid in my stomach - this honestly hasn't helped at all, and I am always in pain, 24/7 but 100 times worse after I've eaten.

I'm now just waiting to see my high risk consultant to ask her for advice. I'm seeing her on the 6th December.

I'm not wanting any surgery before baby arrives so there's not much they can do, but I don't think I'll be physically able to push during labour from the pain, so I think a C-section will be required, and then removal of gallbladder shortly afterwards 😩

What antacid did they give? Omeprazole wasn't strong enough for me so im on esomeprazole now

Hi, I'm so sorry you are experiencing such pain, it is something I suffered greatly with during my first pregnancy (12 Years ago) and I am so disappointed to hear that things have not moved on. Brief history, it may help... normal pregnancy up until I started to experience severe pain in my upper right side, extreme, unbearable pain. I was told by midwives that it was heartburn, something I had never had before so accepted that this was right. Downed the Gaviscon... no difference. I was left thinking jeez if I can cope with heartburn how the hell am I going to cope with labour?!! I began to realise this was something else, but GP, midwife really all palmed me off, eventually, Gp prescribed me Omeprazole, I suspect to get rid of me. I figured out it was food-related, particularly fat related. Which links to the gallbladder. I omitted all fat, and also would not eat after 7 pm, if I didn't I would be up all night in pain. A gall stone diet is very different to a heartburn diet btw. I raised the issue of gallstones and they would not hear of it and said even if it was... can't do anything as you are pregnant. This plagued my entire pregnancy I hate to say, but with careful eating, you can control it. I had my son and had no more attacks...for a few weeks. I went straight to the GP and told them it was damn gallstones and I wanted them out! 6 weeks after my emergency section I was back in hospital having my gallbladder removed. Never had a problem since, thank goodness. Another 2 pregnancies and no similar problems. If you can cope with gallstones when you are pregnant, then you CAN cope with anything!!! I am so sorry you are in pain, and the pain is extreme, but you will get through it, and be stronger for it. Trust me. First time posting, and my first time sharing this, but really felt the need to share in the hope it might help.
