Has anyone had one? Will it likely be an internal scan?

It would be transvaginal. Ive had loads of early scans and was always transvaginal

FrangipanFlower · 18/11/2021 19:42

Yes it will be a transvaginal scan at this stage. I’ve had loads of them they’re not painful at all, a very small section of the probe will be inserted into your vagina very gently with some gel on the end.
You’ll be covered with a sheet the whole thing is totally ok

Depends entirely on your body composition.

If you are definitely 6 weeks + with a flat tummy/low abdominal fat, you will be able to see and hear heartbeat on an abdominal scan

JustOneMoreStep · 18/11/2021 19:48

Yeah it will be an internal scan. To be honest you won't be able to see that much but with a bit of luck you might see the heartbeat (looks like a flashing blob on the screen), but it's magical when you see it for the first time. It's not a complete disaster if there isn't a heartbeat at this stage, it took until 7 weeks for me to see it.

Thanks everyone, yes I was wondering if I'd be covered with anything. I have a friend coming with me so could be a bit awkward 😆

Not transvaginal for me - just a normal scan and saw baby with the heartbeat 🥰

ChrissyAero · 18/11/2021 19:53

Good to know babyboyblue.

Hoping it'll be the same for me.

You can't see anything abdominally until m more like 10 weeks. It will definitely be internal. Wear a skirt if you don't want to have to take everything off but it will be fine :)

You don't need a full bladder for an internal scan. It doesn't hurt. You might be able to see a heartbeat if your dates are right.

Good luck!

I was 6+3 and they saw baby with an abdominal scan but don't panic if they can't they will just do transvaginal afterwards x

Sailor2009 · 18/11/2021 20:03

I had one at 6+4 which was abdominal. Took a while to find but they saw the heartbeat

Nearthelooplease · 18/11/2021 20:08

I had one at 7+4 (I know that’s a whole week’s difference) but only had to have an abdominal scan. I am a size 12-14 too, so not tiny with a lovely flat stomach!

Good luck Smile
