Hi ladies. Another late joiner here as I was too scared to post until I reached my 12 week scan (4.5 years trying, 4 IVF transfers, a miscarriage and a chemical sadly does this to you). However, I have been following along and yesterday had my scan 🙌🏻. Due 4th June x

Dogmum5 · 25/11/2021 15:35

Struggling just now! Will be 10 weeks tomorrow. Burst into tears last night, feel exhausted and full of the cold too. Ended up taking the day off to rest but have guilt as theyre short staffed 🙈 counting down for this to get a bit easier

@ALHCTPS

Oh, just thought of something to tell the first time mums about. Infacol. No idea how it works, but it’s miraculous. You may only need it for a few months but it’s essential. Basically, when babies are small, trapped wind is a massive issue. If they’re crying, it will pretty much always be because of one of the following: they’re hungry, need a nappy change, they’re tired or they have wind. The first three are more or less straightforward, but trapped wind is a bastard. But somehow infacol makes it go away. Then, one day, they grow out of it and you don’t need it, but it was right up there with keys and my phone as an essential to have with me at all times in those first months.
Thank you! Added to the Amazon wish list!!
ALHCTPS · 25/11/2021 16:14

@lei1310 I’ve been known to send it to friends in the first weeks. Magic stuff.

Vimto1991 · 25/11/2021 16:17

Anyone else get pain on their inner thighs? Reminiscent of period pain so I’m freaking out. 😩 I am legit constantly going to the loo to check I am so anxious.

sunflower198 · 25/11/2021 16:19

Pre covid, we went to a baby show at the excel in London, it was great to be able to see lots of different brands and look at lots of prams etc.
we ended up buying our favourite direct from a stand there, it was the display model so we got it super cheap and took it home with us when the show finished.
I assume the shows will be up and running again soon - if you're close to one I'd definitely recommend as it really helped us pick out things.

rathernotshare · 25/11/2021 16:22

@JAR1981 congratulations! We had been trying for 2 years and it was horrific, I cannot even begin to imagine what you've been through xx

unknownscot · 25/11/2021 16:41

@sunflower198
Aw I loved seeing my friends stuff from the London baby show. Absolutely gutted they don't have one in Scotland!!

pregnancydiaries · 25/11/2021 17:10

@unknownscot just found this!!

InvisibleDragon · 25/11/2021 17:10

All this knowledge about bottles, buggies and slings is great!

I'm starting to get anxious about how to choose all these things (and not spend £££), so the inside knowledge is so helpful!

unknownscot · 25/11/2021 17:35

@pregnancydiaries
Yaaas!

ALHCTPS · 25/11/2021 17:41

@InvisibleDragon try out different slings first (some councils have sling libraries) and buy second hand, is my recommendation. I was lucky, as we had friends and family who were only too happy to dump all the baby stuff they were done with on us. Strictly speaking, the only things that have to be new are the car seat (annoying, as we don’t have a car so rarely use one) and mattresses, fir safety reasons. I bought the buggy new too, as I knew it was going to get heavy use and wanted a warranty, but I’m sure second hand would be fine, and MUCH cheaper.

AmICrazy36 · 25/11/2021 18:11

Ohhh I’ll pop that in the diary for me too 🤣

Thank you! Xx

AmICrazy36 · 25/11/2021 18:11

@pregnancydiaries I ment to reply to you about the baby show but didn’t include that! Sorry haha x

RoseValleyRambles · 25/11/2021 18:18

We got the bugaboo we were after for £80 on FB marketplace, and are planning on getting most of our other stuff there, except the bits you need new. It's great for baby stuff, as lots of people don't want to store cots etc.

Only got the pram early because that model doesn't come up secondhand that often. Everything else will be waiting until wk 20+.

unknownscot · 25/11/2021 18:20

Yes I'm on the hunt on marketplace for a Silvercross Coach Built Pram.

The dream! ❤️

CurryandSnuggle · 25/11/2021 18:36

A thing of true beauty :D
Prema112 · 25/11/2021 18:56

@CurryandSnuggle beautiful buggy! Also loving how Christmassy your house is, I'm looking forward to putting up all our decorations soon!

Any first time mums who are worrying about all the baby stuff they need to buy, please dont panic! There's plenty of time still and like someone else said almost everything can be bought second hand. I won't be getting a buggy until baby is too heavy to sling, mainly due to lack of space

Prema112 · 25/11/2021 19:00

@Clomid1 Sorry to hear you are suffering with cramps, it's a bit of a relief to hear someone else is too though as maybe that means it's normal/ok! I'm wondering if mine are the start of pregnancy back pain from relaxin, it seems too early to be getting back pain though 😬

Rolledthedice · 25/11/2021 19:23

Hearing that babies need be held a lot is not ideal for someone with a bad back eek. My pelvis and hips are already grumpy and baby’s not even bigger than a fig yet! 😮 Yes I am completely naive to all things baby, that’s what I get for not thinking about it until it was literally happening.

I tried to rejoin my Pilates class as soon as I found out I was pregnant but they won’t allow it until after 16 weeks... it’s ridiculous, this is the time I am still able to move and I need to get strong! Seems to me that pregnant women are not allowed to do anything at all. I’m still playing badminton though, I figure better to keep mobile.

Rolledthedice · 25/11/2021 19:24

@CurryandSnuggle Love the buggy and Christmassy home! 😀

beansprout55 · 25/11/2021 20:20

@CurryandSnuggle love the pram, it's got me excited!

What I really really love though, is your stunning rustic floor. FYI floor envy is a real thing.
xx

CurryandSnuggle · 25/11/2021 21:16

Ah thanks guys. I love Christmas! 😍🥰 xx

EarlGreywithLemon · 25/11/2021 21:18

@Rolledthedice don’t worry! I have a chronically bad back and it went into spasm for a few months after the birth because of pelvic floor damage from giving birth. So I never owned a sling, and used our Ergobaby about twice until my physio told me I shouldn’t. But it was absolutely fine. Not all babies want to be held all the time, and there are ways around it if they do. I sat on the sofa with our daughter sleeping on me for long stretches for example. A few things really helped: a tall pram so I didn’t have to bend too low (that was by luck rather than design). We bought the high chair early and got a newborn attachment for it so I didn’t have to bend to the floor to put her in a bouncer. We had a changing unit attached to the top of a chest of drawers (luck again) and it was fairly high. Otherwise the physio recommended kneeling in front of a bed and changing her on it. The one thing we didn’t have was a good chair to feed her in in our bedroom- I was recommended a high and straight back chair for good support (definitely not the semi reclining feeding chairs you see). The only suitable chairs that worked had long lead times to be delivered so it would have been too late. There were other things - let me know if it’s useful and I can tell you more.
