NIPT test

Hi everyone.
I'm currently 15+4 with my second baby. My NHS combined test came back High Risk at 1/17 chance of Downs Syndrome. I was gutted. The nuchal fold was 3.4mm, apparently just within normal range, they struggled at the dating scan at 13+1 to get the nuchal measurement due to the baby being mega active. Eventually after 45 mins they decided they had got 3.4mm, which made me feel on edge knowing the cut off was 3.5mm for abnormal. I went and booked the NIPT Iona test with My Baby company in Manchester having a gut feeling I'd be high risk (I'm also 35). And thought I could maybe be ahead of the game and have my NIPT done. But I'm STILL waiting. It will be seven working days tomorrow even though I had the test done 11 days ago.
Worried sick. It's ruining my mental health waiting and waiting. Feeling like I can't fully connect with my baby until I know the NIPT results and expecting the worst x

Why did you pay for an NIPT? If you’re high risk then they’ve been included on the NHS nationwide since 1st July.

I wasn't made aware I'd get it on the NHS beforehand. When she rang with my high risk result she said, "oh that would have been done on the NHS now you're high risk". I only found out the NIPT existed through a friend telling me it did. So I went immediately for it privately due to being made uneasy in the scan with them whispering between two sonographers and watching the nuchal fold number myself x

Hey! I got the NIPT with the same company based out of Manchester but I got my results back within a week. Maybe worth calling the company and chasing it up? Hope everything goes ok xx

I got the results back yesterday. From a 1/17 high risk combined NHS test. My NIPT test came back at Very low risk for all three. X

Glad it’s better odds

That’s brilliant news. I also used same company and found it very reassuring.

I used the same company and got my results back in only 2 working days by phone call so it's really horrible and very surprising that you had to wait so long for your results (unless there was some problem with the lab? I was told that as the results are processed in Manchester too, they are usually back within 3 working days). Really great everything turned out okay though Smile!

So looking for some advice. So I’m currently 14 weeks pregnant I went for a scan they did all the screening tests everything looked fine (the measurements of the fold) my blood results back have come back as one in ten due to hormone being slightly high. Have just had the NIPT test done and sent off now the long wait. I have three children who I never had any of these scares with befor or extra testing. Should I be worried? Any other explanation as to why my bloods would show higher hormone level everything else seemed to be fine. Any advice or previous story’s welcome I’m going out of my mind 😩

Glad you got your results back.

I had an NIPT test done privately, waited and waited, called to chase and was told to wait a bit more. Chased again, turns out my sample (along with everyone else's that day) had been compromised by the heatwave we had back in the summer! All that waiting for fucking NOTHING.

Horrendous anxiety

It's awful waiting isn't it. I personally don't trust the initial combined test one bit. I've read and also spoke to soooo many people who have had high risk numbers as low as mine and yours, and the NIPT has come back low. Mine came back all three in lowest risk possible. Complete opposite to NHS test. My HCG was nearly three times higher than what it should have bee. Suffering horrendous sickness. I'm not sure why it was.... I fully understand you're going out your mind. It's pure torture. I just wish the NIPT was the standard test as the combined is so so wrong on lots of occasions. I'm sure it's probably to do with the NHS funding on that though.
I have high hopes everything will be ok for you. The only thing you can do is keep busy. Here to chat if you need. The hospital advised me to look at the ARC website for more info.

That's appalling. I cannot believe they did that to you! As if it's not bad enough waiting! X
