Food cravings for takeaways

I am 8 weeks pregnant and I am somehow disgusted by every single type of home cooked meal. I love cooking and prepare fresh meals every day but since I am pregnant I am put off even by my favourite home cooked meals. All I fancy is takeaway and restaurant food - has anyone else made a similar experience? During my first pregnancy I was just eating more, but very much enjoyed the food I cooked so I wasn't quite expecting this.

Yup this is driving me insane! I made homemade lentil soup last week and had to throw up mid meal! Yet icecream, chocolate, crisps and utter junk no problem.
I made a spag bol tonight, felt total nausea all the way through, yet I can put away a packet of biscuits no issues.
I’m so concerned that I’m going to chat to my midwife about it. I’m not fitting into my trousers and I’m only 9 weeks.

I can remember throwing up mid meal too, horrible isn’t it? I was absolutely obsessed with Burger King burgers when I was pregnant with DS1, so weird I was never that bothered by burgers, but they had to be BK, no others would do! DH struggled with that addiction! With DS2 it was broccoli, much healthier, couldn’t get enough of it. Good luck with your pregnanciesFlowers

Yes! I am 9+2 and have been like this for weeks. The other day I couldn't bring myself to eat toast but KFC vegan chicken burger got down absolutely no problem. How is that logical?!?

Greggs steak bakes Grin

Mcdonalds cheeseburgers.
To be fair, any take away would have done during the 1st and 2nd trimester. Im still fancying rubbish food now over something much healthier. Im trying to make better choices but im not going to deny myself given I had HG for god knows how many weeks (HG but still wanted take aways!)

I'm eating those Batchelor's Pasta n Sauce sachets on a daily basis at the moment. Whatever food you can stomach in the first trimester is good! With my first I lived on ginger nuts and apples.

lawandgin · 15/11/2021 20:54

Honestly don't worry about it. It's completely normal. I'm 16 weeks and have only been able to stomach normal food (ie fruit and veg!) for a few weeks. I still have days where all I eat is carbs and I crave takeaways!

For me, the preference for takeaway food was about smell. In my first trimester I couldn't stand the smell of anything except fresh air, so the idea of standing over a pan, or smells emanating from the oven, would completely turn me off eating. If, however, my husband walked in the door with a takeaway and I could quickly dive in, I found I could stomach it. I'm 35 weeks now and still find I'm more drawn to raw food as it doesn't smell as strongly.

I had this too, I couldn't face the thought of cooking or eating something homecooked. For me I think a lot of it was the predictability - I knew exactly how the takeaway would turn out, but when I cook it always seems to be different even when I use the same recipe!

Yes, specifically maccies. Even pizza, curry, Chinese etc just isn’t doing it for me at the moment . I could eat maccies morning noon and night!
