Pregnancy test weeks different - miscarriage?

Hi everyone :)

I am new here so I'm sorry if there is already a similar thread out there, there's too many to check through!

My husband and I found out yesterday we were having our first baby! It was a bit of a surprise and I only took a test to rule it out as I was convinced something else was going on and that's why my period was late.

I took 2 tests yesterday, both Clear Blue. One was a standard 'cross' test and the other was a digital. The digital test said I was 2-3 weeks pregnant and my Flo app says I'm 4 weeks today based on my last period.

I did another test this morning (just to triple triple check as I was still in a bit of disbelief and I couldn't sleep) and it said I was 1-2 weeks pregnant.

Yesterday when I tested I dipped the test in a cup, today I peed on the stick. Yesterday I tested at midday and this morning it was my second wee of the day.

My husband and I are pretty convinced we conceived 2 weeks ago yesterday as it was the only time we had unprotected sex this month and I was near ovulation. So based on that I should be 2 weeks 1 day (4 weeks today based on my period dates).

I haven't really got any other symptoms of pregnancy except from a missed period. During the week I felt a bit faint and weird and I took my blood pressure at work and it was fine. Since yesterday I've had a full feeling in my abdomen and a few twingy pains on both sides. I had a little bit of back ache this morning but that's not unusual for me. Otherwise I feel fine and pretty normal.

I'm a bit worried that I could be having a miscarriage already and that's why my hCG levels have dropped, but then I wonder if it's too soon to be able to tell that?

Has anyone else experienced a change in the weeks on a test? Or is it just me that triple triple checks and then gets in a tizz when things don't match up?!

Thanks in advance to anyone who responds, I really appreciate your time! Thanks also for reading my ramble, I hope it all makes sense x

You need to add on 2 weeks to the digitals, the indicator is based on conception. If you believe you only conceived 2 weeks and 1 day ago it would be normal for it to say 1-2 or 2-3 weeks, it won't change to 2-3 weeks at smack bang 2 weeks.

You should use your first wee of the day for most accurate result. I’m not an advocate of testing more than once as it drives you mad, but if you want reassurance, do one more with concentrated wee (first wee of the day, ideally at least 5 hours since your last wee if you wee in the night.

Thank you for getting back to me :)

I was just a bit concerned about the fact that it dropped from 2-3 weeks to 1-2 weeks so quickly, but I guess like you said it's unlikely to go up that quickly so I expect that it going down is just a bit of an error too!

You're right, it's probably not the best idea I've ever had! I think I'll leave it a few days and then if I really still have the urge to test again I will in the week in the morning like you said!

OP I found my urine 'stronger' (or at least the test results were stronger) on an evening rather than a morning for some reason!

Maybe buy cheap Amazon pregnancy strips? They amazing to check the line progression and if you do it every second day (there is jo point to do it every day as the hormons needs 24-48 hourst to build up) you can save up a nice amount of money. I find the fancy ones more confusing.

It's strange how everyone is different, you'd think things like this would be relatively the same for everyone!

Ah good idea, I will have a look now! Then at least I'm not wasting expensive tests each time! Thanks

I echo previous advise, first morning wee is most accurate, any other time of day it can be diluted by what you've eaten and drank, metabolism speeding up and producing more waste, etc.

If you do get cheapo test strips, be aware that it can become a bit of an obsession for some people and cause unnecessary worry if you for some reason think the line hasn't got 'dark enough'. You're currently pregnant, there's no reason to think you're not unless you start bleeding. The preg tests won't tell you otherwise :)
