12 Week Scan, Enlarged Bladder

I had an elective scan today at 11+4 and was told that the baby had an enlarged bladder but the technician wasn’t too forthcoming with what this could mean (she was so lovely but I think as it’s elective and not a hospital ultrasound they may not be able to discuss certain issues so I could understand her position!) She advised she would contact the hospital I’m booking in with to get a further scan.

Had anyone else had anything similar? The bladder is all I see when I look at my ultrasound and I can’t help but worry. Of course I had to pull myself off of Google because it’s terrifying… I’ve read lots about how things like this can be very serious! We told people yesterday still as I was feeling like I should have people around to support whatever the outcome, but I am regretting that now as everyone is replying with "it will be fine" and I'm not sure it will Confused

Why did you have the scan? Was it a private reassurance scan? At 11+4 your a days too early for screening tests and for the bladder to be assessed properly.
Did the sonographer scan you just once, or send you for a walk for about 15 mins and rescan you? The bladders volume fills and empties every 10-15 mins, hence needing to recheck it after a walk. However, if this was a private reassurance scan (with for example Window To The Womb) please be aware they may not be qualified sonographers and unable to asses medically.

Thank you for responding! The reason for the scan was because we are away with family today so we wanted to tell people (although it's early and I feel like I've jinxed it which is so ridiculous but that's what my irrational mind is like) and make sure everything was okay before doing so. It was with a company called ultrasound direct so think likely they are the similar to window to the womb! The sonographer did say that it was too early but it was still concerning to her as it's unusual for the bladder to be at 6mm already (but she did say that it would be too early to assess the kidneys until 20 weeks so there wasn't much they could say, which I think is the hardest thing knowing there is such a wait!) There was no rescan after 10 minutes, the appointment was only about 20 minutes and then she spent some time emailing over the hospital I am with to try and get my NHS scan bought forward, something else that panicked me which probably shouldn't have!

I wouldn't be as worried but my booking appointment. blood tests, 12 week scan and NIPT on the NHS haven't even come through yet so there's also a lot online about chromosomes that could cause this. I'm so sorry for my mind dump and long response, it's nice to write it all down though so thank you for taking the time and reading!
