Corneal Abrasion

Hi everyone so i have a corneal abrasion thanks to my toddler and im 27 weeks pregnant.
Im in such excruciating pain at the moment.
My doctor prescribed me Category C antibiotic eye drops and when i googled them apparently Category C isn’t recommended as theres no studies in pregnant women. Im kind of freaking out!
Has anyone had a corneal abrasion during pregnancy and how long did it heal. ☹️

Hi OP - ouch sounds sore. Did the optician prescribe it knowing you were pregnant? I guess it depends if the need to sort the abrasion overrides the caution to not use the antibiotic? Can they heal on their own if left? I had a corneal ulcer and needed 5 days of antibiotic cream. I didn’t really have a choice in taking it as if it didn’t heal I would need surgery and could have lost some sight - so I guess that meant I didn’t need to ‘worry’ if the antibiotic was safe. It was almost fully healed in the 5 days so the antibiotic definitely helped. And the pain was so bad I don’t think I could have chosen not to take the antibiotic. I suspect it’s a similar treatment - for me I had to weigh it up and really I couldn’t not take the antibiotic as my eye needed sorted.

@1ce1cebaby
Yes the optician knows im pregnant and said its quite serious because its an open scratch and cause a bad eye infection if anything gets in. He said its only for 4 days. But obviously google doesnt help in these situations 😅

No google never tends to help!! I didn’t even check. I had to get the first dose immediately so never had time to think. Thankfully lol well I hope it clears quickly for you whatever you decide!
