Don't understand these pregnancy symptoms

Dh and I decided to try for no 2 this month, and until I got my period, I thought it might have taken first time - I was feeling nauseous, and my boobs, which are normally pretty small, really grew! Even dh noticed it - I'd been moaning that they were smaller than ever after b/feeding for 13 months, and last week he suddenly said 'Don't know what you were worried about' - so it wasn't just me hoping. However, I got my period, a day or two late, and thought, "Oh well, another month" - but I still have huge boobs, and feeling tired and sick. So I did a test (hoping against hope), but no it was -ve. Any thoughts? Or is this normal?

Hi musica, I have no real practical advice but it might have been a change in hormones which made you feel sick/boobs growing just before you got your period, even if it might not have been normal for you.. I know how you feel though I was convinced about six months ago even felt exhausted everyday and my boobs were sore, but it wasnt a pregnancy like first thought.

Please dont feel down about it, try not to get worked up and enjoy it, I concieved whilst having a quickie in the afternoon! which wasnt usual for me so try different times of the day (not so easy when you have one already Im sure) but most of all enjoy this time with your dh.. dont get worked up about it, it will happen.

They say with the 'average' couple it can take up to six months (maybe more) and I dont know when you finished breastfeeding but your hormones cant have settled yet so give it time, relax, hope it works out for you.

Thinking of u.

musica, I had a similar reaction when trying to conceive ds2. I thought it was first time lucky and had the same physical reactions as you! But as with you was not pregnant after 'feeling' so pregnant. So I fully appreciate where you are coming from.
I fell pregnant the next month and he is now 11 months old and a real handfull.
So good luck and don't worry about this!

monkey · 19/10/2002 12:42

musica, I'm going through the same thing right now. I've had a negative test result too, and I couldn't believe it, becasue I feel so pregnant - all the synptoms I had before - very very tired, a bit nautious in the mornings, rally thirst, especially at night - having to wake up to drink more water, did I mention the tiredness! So I was very disappointed with the negative reult, because I have all these symptoms too. I have 2 kiddies, and I've never experienced symptoms like these before (except when I really was pregnant of course). So, I can empathise, and hope you and I both settle down (and get pg quickly!).

Anyway, at least you've got big boobs! I just feel like s**t.

musica · 30/10/2002 16:46

Bad luck Monkey! It's so annoying isn't it! Let me know how you get on - I'm not very optimistic about this month...but you never know!

oh well, postie finally arrived, got the tests, no surprise - negative. So I'm now 2 weeks late, which inheard of, but then I suppose the iud removal has toatlly upset my system, but I'm frustrated that I feel like I'm pg still, but def. can't be.

So does anyone have any idea how these things tend to work? Would I still possibly ovulate this cycle, even though a cycle hasn't technically begun I suppose as I haven't had a period? Would I just have a period at the normal time next time and skip this missing one altogether, or am I a timebomb that could blow at anytime?? I suppose either is possible/likely?

With the test I suppose at least I know my status, but that doesn't help me with trying to get pg. I guess I should resort to my original plan and chop off my head, at least it would stop all this uncertainty.

musica · 31/10/2002 09:45

Oh Monkey - I'm beginning to think it just isn't meant to be this month - we went on holiday for half term, and by my calculations, the top day for babymaking was about Saturday or Sunday - so what happened - weather - dh got stuck on holiday. When he got back on Tuesday, he was tired and had a headache. So I reckon that's blown it for this month. Not fair is it!

Poor you Musica! I thought that was supposed to be the woman's excuse??

I read that to conceive it was better to have sex in the 2 - 3 days before you thought you'd ovulate, successful conception was nearly always from pevious spermies already swiming about, and any spermies turning up on the scene at or after ovulation were almost always too late. Dunno if that helps.

Good luck for next month. Do you still have big boobs??

Wish me luck for whenever - I've no idea when to aim for, so I guess dh is going to get spoilt from now on - hope he doesn't think it'll last forever! Sorry - you probably don't want quite so much info do you?

musica · 31/10/2002 12:37

monkey - sadly not re boobs...they've always been pretty small, and after b/feeding for 13 months, got ever smaller...I was quite excited last month!I'll let you know about this month - keep your fingers crossed, and I'll do the same for you!

OP posts:
monkey · 31/10/2002 15:19

bet they haven't shrunk as much as mine did

musica · 03/11/2002 22:20

How are you doing Monkey? Any signs one way or the other? Still dk about this month - not going to read too much into anything, then be disappointed!

Monkey, was wondering about you too this afternoon...

monkey · 04/11/2002 09:13

that's so sweet of you both! Well, like I said I got the tests end October & did one & it was neg, but I've still not had a period, still feel pg - wildly fluctuating appetite - massively sweet tooth (wwith ds1 pg I lived for several weeks on jam doughnuts & jelly teddies), headaches, tingly boobs (but is that my imagination?) even dh - the most unobservant man in the world looked at my tea the other night - salami & sandwich spread sandwich with loads of olives waashed down with too much cake - yes I know soooo unhealthy - and asked if I'd done the test right.

But anyway, waffling as usual - test neg, feel pg & no period, so still in my little limbo.

How's it going with you?? When should you know, musica, and www - hope you're putting in planty of effort, or are you still hiding in the broom cupboard from dh??

monkey · 04/11/2002 16:25

sorry www, dp not dh. hope didn't offend.

threeangels · 04/11/2002 16:58

Hi Monkey - Sorry your feeling so pregnant and keep having neg results. If your trying just keep it up it will happen. My dh and I are actively trying this week. Hopefully this will be it. Its so tireing when your doing it for a purpose. Good Luck.

WideWebWitch · 04/11/2002 17:54

Not offended in the slightest monkey, course not! Sorry to hear about your limbo. Yes, we're actively trying now, scary! Will know in about 2 weeks ish which is when my period is due. Expect it to take ages or not happen at all but you never know!

florenceuk · 04/11/2002 20:02

Good luck WWW - hope you don't have to wait too long!

monkey · 04/11/2002 20:31

I'd be due in 2 weeks (just under\0 if I hadn't missed one iykwim. I've never missed one before - apart from pg of course. Is it usual to just skip one then get your next period at the right time as if nothing had happened? If so - we'll be keeping fingers crossed together.

So your ds will be 6 when next comes along, if you get lucky straight away?

Ooh good luck

WideWebWitch · 04/11/2002 21:44

Monkey, mumsnet have just added a conception topic to the topics list so will start a ttc thread, see you there?

musica · 04/11/2002 21:54

Hi monkey - I should know sometime next week - I'm really not at all optimistic - might be a miracle if it does happen. Fingers still crossed for you, and www you too! See you at your new thread?

Have you asked a doctor about your symptoms?

OP posts:
Rhubarb · 05/11/2002 16:10

I'm a bit anxious about my period too. I should have started on Saturday and I'm normally quite regular. I have the sore boobs that I normally get just before a period, but I've had them for a week now and still no sign of said period. But I cannot think of any accidents that we have had, we've been really careful all month. I don't quite know what to do about it!

monkey · 05/11/2002 19:37

Rhubarb, don't mean to sound flippant, but have you done a test?

Rhubarb · 06/11/2002 09:57

Just started this morning. Half relieved but also very annoyed as I am due to go to a ball tomorrow evening, my first and probably my last. So am in a bit of a dilemma (see Quick Question thread).
