Planned c section

Hi everyone

I have a planned c section booked as baby is breech! I have been informed that there are two theatres in the hospital that I am at, one for emergencies and one for planned

There are 5 planned for the same day as me, and we are last on the list. I have had a very anxious pregnancy and am an anxious person - the doctor who called to confirm c section did say he has to make me aware that the day could be changed ( this has been said before and I understand they have to make me aware incase there were lots of emergencies )

My concern is mentally preparing for the c section and for the baby to be here and having to wait longer. I do of course understand emergencies take priority but after speaking to him today I feel quite distressed

I’m hoping I’m over thinking ( hormones and anxiety!!) but was wondering if this is something that they say as standard in most hospitals?

Thanks in advance

Standard. Better to let you know that it is a (hopefully unlikely!) possibility ahead of time rather than informing you the day of, or worse, after you've already been cancelled for that day. I absolutely get it's distressing to know it could happen, but you've got some time to prepare now.

I will also say, if you can't be done on the electives for that day, they'll slot you in ASAP, and as a (slightly) higher priority. Should your waters go before then, you'd be classed as a emergency and would have your section expedited.

Thanks so much for replying - I completely understand I am being slightly ott and really hoping goes ahead as planned. It just seems that there is one thing after another to worry about in pregnancy - will be glad when baby is here and worry’s will change to them!

I’ve spoke to a couple of people who have said it’s standard that they have to say it, and also as there is separate theatres hopefully all should go ok!

I had a planned c section for my second and it went ahead on track. On the whole a planned c section is the most controllable type of birth. My other labour was natural and I went nearly a week over, it lasted for days.

In all likelihood it will happen on the day, if not almost definitely the next day. It will be very controlled, calm and relaxed if it's anything like mine.

I know it's easier said than done, but try to prepare yourself mentally to just go with the flow. You have no control over it so stressing about it will only affect your experience of such a special time. (I say this from experience of doing exactly that with the birth of my first).

Thank you - you are right I need to try and relax and look forward to the most exciting time and embrace and enjoy it. Lovely to hear your section was so positive - I am hoping that by this time tomorrow our baby is here and all my worry today was for nothing
