Still waiting for a section date

Hi!

I had my appointment with the consultant last Wednesday where we all agreed that an elective caesarean is best due to baby being big and breech.. over a week later at 38+5 I still haven't been given a date, when I've phoned up to question it they've just told me I'm second on the list but no date for said list?!

I'm just wondering how much notice you've had before having a section? I just keep getting told someone will be in touch with you tomorrow and I'm running out of tomorrow's x

Really late I got my section date, I think it depends on the hospital. My midwife had to book mine in. I never actually got the CS either!

DizzySquirrel90 · 11/11/2021 13:12

Probably not the answer you are after but my section is booked for 40+10

BebesChamber · 11/11/2021 13:15

This happened to me and then I went into labour naturally because the hospital were messing me around so much. Stand your ground and go into the labour ward and ask to speak to someone face to face. There will be someone who runs the schedule for the operating theatre.

OliviaL9530 · 11/11/2021 13:25

@DizzySquirrel90 oh gosh! That's horrendous haha they're not letting my go past 40 weeks regardless.
The plan was planned induction at 40 weeks if she had turned or section at 39 weeks if still breech.. still breech and big so they didn't want me to go past 39, that was the original plan but who bloody knows x

@mayblossominapril

My midwife is a bit useless. She just keeps telling me to phone them x

My hospital have said they'll tell me by the Wednesday of the week before and if I haven't heard by then then I should chase.

OliviaL9530 · 11/11/2021 13:28

@BebesChamber

I think that's going to be best option isn't it as I'm just getting passed from pillar to post. Such a shame because they've been so great up until now but the waiting is driving me nuts and the original plan was to not let me go past 39 weeks x

@queenatom

That's where I was last week, she said if I haven't heard in a week to phone them and it's now over a week since that and I just get told to wait for a phone call

@OliviaL9530, just out of interest, which hospital? This sounds a lot like the nonsense I had with my last consultant appointment...

OliviaL9530 · 11/11/2021 13:48

@queenatom it's Hull Royal. Woman's and Children's Hospital x

@OliviaL9530 Ah, okay, not the same as mine then. I feel your pain though, I ended up having to basically have a nervous breakdown on the phone to get them to book me in to see the consultant - was supposed to have an appointment after my 36 week growth scan but they kept telling me I was on the list and then eventually they said they might not be in touch until after 39 weeks! Burst into tears at that point as I was so stressed out...

All this to say, do keep chasing and being a total pain in their side. Hope you get your date very soon!

SouthwestSis · 11/11/2021 14:48

Hospitals are under extreme pressure at the moment so I wouldn't advise making yourself a pain in the side of the staff who will be doing their best, and its likely there are reasons you haven't heard yet. If they haven't been able to give you a date so far then try and ring again at the end of today or tomorrow morning

Soberfutures · 11/11/2021 15:00

Where I work you would have been booked at about 38 weeks depending on the reason. But all inpatients have to have a pcr 3 days before so I would definitely chase it up as you will need this arranging and pre op bloods.

mayblossominapril · 11/11/2021 15:00

Where I gave birth the booking diary for csections was on labour ward. Try and find out where the diary is and ring them.
I hope you get it sorted because it’s just unnecessary stress.

OliviaL9530 · 11/11/2021 15:08

@SouthwestSis

I completely understand the pressures everyone is under, I work for the NHS so I completely get it but getting told every day to wait for a week is frustrating especially when they're the ones that told me it'll all be happening at 39 weeks which is 2 days away plus the covid swabs and bloods and everything still haven't been arranged.

I get things change and lists are changed due to emergencies or what not but not one person has contacted me in the weeks leading up

I'll phone them in the morning and hope for some more answers x

OliviaL9530 · 11/11/2021 15:09

@Soberfutures

That's the irritating thing too is that no bloods or swabs have been arranged so I'm already 48 hours behind.

The student just said if we phone you the day before telling you to come in we'll just treat you as covid positive and give you the last slot of the day. Not much planning for a planned section x

Soberfutures · 11/11/2021 15:12

Wow thats not acceptable. Ask to speak to the inpatient matron to see if she can advise. It's very important to have pre op bloods done for cross matching. Our system is all computerised so it only takes a minute to give you a slot. Please escalate this.

RavenclawsRoar · 11/11/2021 15:14

At my trust you get added to the list for the week you turn 39 weeks and then the date is confirmed 5 days before. I'm on tenterhooks now as mine could well be next week (although more likely the following week as they are busy). I'd definitely ring them given you're 38+5 - make sure you're definitely still on the list.

BebesChamber · 12/11/2021 18:55

Have you had any luck @OliviaL9530 ?

That's not fair on the midwife, the midwife can't book the CS! She's right in that you will just have to keep ringing the antenatal clinic. The consultant let's the waiting list admins know and it's them who look at the slots for the elective sections and see where they can fit you in. It's really busy and only so many slots each day. It is frustrating but you will get sorted!

OliviaL9530 · 12/11/2021 23:59

@PinkPrawns2

She is though.
I haven't seen her since I was 28 weeks due to her being on annual leave and what not. I take some responsibility in having to chance people and things up as I know how busy it is but she never answers the phone when I call, I leave countless messages and I've been left to arrange me own appointments.
