Very weird pregnancy craving...

I’m 30 weeks pregnant and for the last fortnight I’ve had the weirdest pregnancy craving! So much so that I’m just sitting here thinking about whether it would be so bad to eat it... or just lick it even.
The wonderful food in question I hear you ask!? Not even a food, the fluff that gathers in the tumble dryer filter. Please tell me I’m not crazy!?

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pica_(disorder)

Might indicate a vitamin/mineral deficiency

CupcakeTowers · 09/11/2021 21:31

Hahaha I sort of understand that! I always find it immensely satisfying to peel the fluff away from the filter. My craving was chalky dust. I was taking a calcium supplement and would break open the capsules and slowly lick the powder off a spoon because of how amazing the texture was. Turned out I was severely iron-deficient by the third trimester so might be worth checking up on that!

furbabymama87 · 09/11/2021 21:35

I craved chalk and rocks. It can be a sign of an iron deficiency but in my last pregnancy I got my iron tested and it was normal.

JumperooSue · 09/11/2021 21:54

Dish washer tablets here, I used to salivate thinking about eating them.. obviously I resisted! Also completely normal iron/vitamin bloods🤷🏼‍♀️

Rhioplepog · 09/11/2021 21:59

So I was properly obsessed with cleaning my teeth and biting sponges when preggo

I used to fantasise about biting those scrub daddy sponges

One day I ordered 3 scrub daddies off Amazon so I could chew on them

It went away when the baby was born

You are not alone in this weirdness Grin

TooMuchCheesecake · 09/11/2021 22:01

I craved the old cement from in between bricks in both my pregnancies. Both times it turned out I had an iron deficiency so it might be a good idea to get checked out.

DoG87 · 10/11/2021 04:28

I craved sand, soil & brick dust with my first. Im currently 26 weeks pregnant and still haven’t had any cravings so far.

CurryandSnuggle · 10/11/2021 06:37

You should always get checked out if you’re craving non-food because it can mean you’re deficient in iron as others said (see nhs website: www.nhs.uk/start4life/pregnancy/pregnancy-faqs/ > question 2)

I'm currently 35 weeks and have been craving chalk or talc like items - very strong cravings sometimes but have managed to resist the urge. I also mentioned it to my midwife who has recently done some tests for iron levels etc so deffinatley worth mentioning mentioning x

Pumpkinsonparade · 10/11/2021 07:53

My friend wanted to eat cat litter..
She appeased her craving by filling a washing up bowl and crunching her feet in litter!!
Maybe try with floof??

ScotsMumOf4 · 10/11/2021 14:44

Mine was lemon flash on a fresh sponge for my previous 2. This one is flash kitchen cleaner. I'm obsessed with spraying it on a scrub daddy and cleaning my kitchen sink 😅

idontlikealdi · 10/11/2021 16:11

Pica

OrangeJuiceAndNoodles · 10/11/2021 16:13

I'm 24 weeks and I keep standing in the utility room when the tumble dryer is on. The smell is delicious 😋

Becka09009 · 10/11/2021 16:34

Haha! I’ve fancied kitchen spray and nail varnish so far...I can totally get on board with what @Rhioplepog said about biting sponges too. I haven’t done this but it sounds really appealing Grin ..iron levels fine for me. Pregnancy is strange!
