Anyone else really constipated? I'm on day 9 in hospital, I've been given everything possible which is suitable for pregnancy but I still can't go. I've even had strong colonoscopy preps and enemas. I'm in agony and feel super uncomfortable.
I even had to have an mri to see if there was a blockage or something more serious which was risky but the problem could have been worse. It showed i'm just severely constipated
I'm 8 weeks pregnant

Buy Kellogs All Bran Crunch.

Eat that all day and your bowels will soon be vacated.

24 weeks and still struggling. Knees up, rocking, pushing like you’re in labour, anything to get it out. I have coeliac disease and was glutened earlier which definitely cleared everything but now I’m worrying about the effects of gluten on baby.
If enemas and stuff aren’t working I’m not sure what they can do?

I'm almost 19 weeks now and have struggled with this since about 8 weeks, although not to the point of MRIs and hospital - hope you're okay, OP!

What seems to have helped for me is fruit & fibre cereal (with extra added raisins) for breakfast every morning with a glass of fresh orange juice, a half dose of lactulose (safe in pregnancy) every evening, and buying a poop step / squatty potty. The poop step has been the biggest help, genuinely life changing for me and my husband! Have a look on Amazon, you will be able to get one delivered next day for a tenner or so.

I'm 38 weeks now but I've had constipation throughout my whole pregnancy. I can second using a poop step, I've used one for years. Also rocking back & forward & using the hypnobirthing down breathing helped me.

Drink tons and tons of water. And then some more water

Wifflywafflywoo · 09/11/2021 11:57

Tons of water, fresh orange juice with a sachet of fibogel twice a day with meals, morning Weetabix, lots of walking, sit on the loo with your feet up a bit and make your upper body from the waist do slow clockwise circles. Do squats or tasks like emptying the dishwasher (weirdly does it for me?!). Eat a scorching hot chili with fresh tomato salsa (that plus the above ended a week of constipation at 8 weeks pregnant).

Keep doing all of the above even when not feeling too bunged up as it just comes back. I also make sure I don't push or strain on the loo which means sometimes sitting there for half an hour but it works for me.

Thank you so so sooo much for all the tips! I appreciate it so much. I've purchased one of those steps, I have never seen them before. I'm really glad I'm not the only one struggling with this although I'm sorry that you are!!
