Can anyone explain/answer a (potentially silly) question about a hematoma in pregnancy?

15 weeks now. So at 13 weeks I had a sudden massive bleed with clots. After an agonising 4 days a scan showed baby was fine and there was an area of pooled blood which could have caused the bleeding. They didn't give it a name but sounds like a hematoma? Anyway, since then I have had some red/brown spotting everyday, which I had to have an internal exam for just now to rule out cervical erosion. No cervical erosion but he said he could see brown discharge (sorry tmi) coming from the cervix. Could this just still be leftover from my original bleed? I don't know if this is a really silly question but did the big original bleed even come out of my cervix??

Just fed up of all the worrying and uncertainty :(

Hi @Hfarm1 yes it very well could be and it’s not a silly question at all. I had a SCH bleed at 11 weeks and I had bleeding, then spotting then brown discharge until about 16 weeks. They couldn’t see any bleed left on scans to explain the spotting/brown discharge but I think it was “left over blood” if that makes sense?

Thanks for replying @NovRainbow5 I really hope that's what's happening. I'm just so anxious and have been for the last two and a half weeks. This morning I had a gush of blood, really brown, that turned the toilet bowl dark. I just don't know what to think, everywhere says brown is good but it just feels like it's never going to stop.

I phoned EPU for another scan but they are strictly only two weeks apart and by that point I will be 16 + 1 so she basically said not their problem. Managed to get a scan with maternity but it's not for another week, I just can't face this uncertainty for another week 😭 if my midwife doesn't do heartbeat at my 16 week appointment in two days then I'm going to book a private scan.

Hi there, sorry you are going through this. I had this with my last pregnancy, had a bleed at 13 weeks with quite a bit of blood and had a scan the next day which showed quite a sizeable hematoma beside the baby. Had a bit of spotting afterwards and was advised not to do any heavy lifting etc. but they weren't overly worried. Also if its brown blood I was told that's a good sign as its old blood !

Was brought back 6 weeks later for another scan which still showed the hematoma but it had gotten smaller so my body was thankfully absorbing it. That baby is 2 in 10 days time ! It is such a worrying time though so I really feel for you and hopefully your scan next week gives you some re-assurance

@Hfarm1 I have Hematoma too and diagnosed at just 5 weeks. It's fairly large so I get your worries as nothing can be done either, just a Waiting game ...

@Hfarm1 Currently going through the same! Had a few bleeds over the week of 13 weeks and even had an overnight stay in the hospital. Finally got some answers on Friday in that I have a small hematoma. I'm on day 5 of no bleeding, not even a wipe of brown blood so hoping that's a good sign.

My doctor said they are only really worried about bright red blood/intense cramps. I was told to take it easy but still continue a normal life. Can you not speak to triage as opposed to EPU since you are past 12 weeks now?

Sending you a big hug as it really is scary Flowers
