18 week- issues with babies brain and measuring really small

Hi, I’be tried searching previous feeds but can’t find anything similar what what myself and husband are experiencing. We are just wanting to know if anyone has had any similar experiences and if so, what was the outcome?

It’s a really long story so I’ll not go into details. Our baby is measuring extremely small, which we have been told indicates a chromosomal issue. We haven’t been given an indication of which. We have had the amnio done and they are also doing full microarray testing.

Our baby also has several issues with the brain, the lower part of the cerebellum hasn’t formed, there’s a questionable area at the front of the brain. Originally this looked liked a cyst but it maybe a malformation. We are having a mri next week to get further information.

I have google so much and can’t find anything similar. We haven’t been given any indication of what we are looking at, other than chromosomal. Me and my husband aren’t medical experts but we even know this isn’t looking good. Does anyone have any similar experience? Thanks in advance.

Hi, I am so sorry you're going through such an uncertain and worrying time. My first baby was stillborn last year and although I have not experienced what you are going through, I've listened to lots of podcasts recently and have heard numerous times about the ARC charity and that they are very supportive. www.arc-uk.org

All the very best to you, take care.

I’m so sorry to hear about your baby. Thank you for your response. I’ve seen arc mentioned a few times during my google searches, I’ll give there a try.

So sorry you're going through this and definitely do try ARC, they should be able to offer some support.

With our first PG baby was very inactive and had a large part of the brain missing. It turned out to be cystic hygroma rather than chromosomal though.

When do you have the next test abs when do you get the results?

Thanks for your response GuyFawkesAppreciationClub can I ask what the happened with your first baby? We have been told the preliminary results from the amnio will be back within 48 working hours of the test, which was Friday. We are booked to see our consultant again in just over two week, she said at this point we will have all the results. However things are subject to change.

It’s the bit knowing which is the really hard part. We don’t want to feel like we have given up hope, but we feel like we need to prepare ourselves. We’ve had 3 miscarriages in the space of 15 months, 2 of which were missed. Following the last we had testing which confirmed no issues. We’re completely lost, broken and don’t know why this keeps happening. We have a beautiful DS5 and have decided that we need to be grateful for what we have.

I have nothing medical to say, but I just wanted to say you both sound incredible people.
I really hope your little bubba is ok, just remember, it's ok to not be ok 100% of the time Thanks

GAW19 Thank you.

We took the decision to terminate after speaking at length with the Consultant. She had said that I'd more than likely miscarry by 24 weeks and I couldn't bear being pg knowing that it would end anyway.

I would speak to ARC and try abs do something with you DH today, maybe a walk or a coffee to try and distract yourselves but do talk to one another as much as you can Thanks

Also no advice to offer, but sending sympathy and strength as it sounds like a difficult time. I’m glad you have a supportive husband and beautiful child to help get you through whatever lies ahead.
