Just got a midwife appt through and the letter says I am assigned to the emerald midwife team. Any idea what this means?

When I was pregnant in London a few years ago (twice) there was a red, blue, yellow etc team and then there was one with a fancy colour (indigo I think?) which was for mothers who needed more support for whatever reason. I was in that team both times because I was very ill in pregnancy. I was never really sure what difference it made but my lovely midwife (same both times) did visit me at home and in hospital a few times when I was very unwell. I think maybe the appt slots were a bit longer too. So might be something like that or it might just be that they use fancy colour names for the "ordinary" teams where you are!

The way it worked where I was was that each team of midwives provided services from a certain area, so north of the city - ruby team, south - diamond team, etc

At the hospital I’m at I’m under the Opal Team (others are named after different gems). My understanding was different location areas or GP surgeries simply come under different midwife teams for easier organisation. No difference between them.

Did you have a csection for your previous birth OP? That was emerald team when I had my second.

Bettybantz · 06/11/2021 20:47

It’s just the name of the team

Oh ok, that makes sense! No Previous c section but I am under a consultant for ivf pregnancy and being on meds and possibly age Grin so it could also be high risk team. I guess I’ll find out as Google didn’t throw up any definitive answers, thanks ladies
