Advice needed, 36 weeks and baby has hardly moved today????

I really need some help with what to do here. Im am nearly 36 weeks pregnant and my normally very active baby hasnt really moved at all today.

I have drunk endless amounts of water to make sure im not dehydrated and had a long bath about an hour and a half ago, which got me my first movement of the day. Since then though i have only felt a couple of very weak movements.

I saw my Midwife yesterday and babys heartbeat was fine so really dont want to call and go into the maternity ward to be checked if im just being silly. (plus im shattered so could do with out the trip)

I know baby is running out of room in there but my little one doesnt seem to have quiet days and i expected movement to slow not stop all of a sudden from lack of room!

Help please what should i do for the best??

ring maternity ward and speak to mw. I posted similar last week, but only after a morning of not much movement and was rightly ticked off from fellow concerned mumsnetters who asked what i was waiting for? Everything was fine with me and sure it is with you but i wouldn't wait over night, ring now x

speak to midwife and go to be monitored if they think it appropriate. Better safe than sorry.

Although babies may not kick as vigourously you should be able to feel wriggling.

sallysparkle · 12/12/2007 18:33

Get some really cold water and ice cubes down you. I had the same thing happen and thats the first thing the midwife got me to do. I would call your midwife too

TotalChaos · 12/12/2007 18:33

agree with the other posters. speak to mw.

kelbel · 12/12/2007 18:34

they'll suggest putting a tracing on, they leave it for about 20-30 mins, not only checks for a heartbeat but also monitors the pattern. That's what they did for me and I was so pleased I went, and would be put off going again x

callmeoverchristmas · 12/12/2007 18:36

Ring MW and in the mean time drink icecold water or Milk. Baby should be annoyed by the cold and move. Also try some Chocolate as apparently the sugar gives them a bit of a boost to start wiggling

Let us know how you get on.

TwinklyfLightAttendant · 12/12/2007 18:36

Orange juice and lying on your side for half an hour might start it...I would agree about getting checked x

didsnbump · 12/12/2007 18:40

I tried chocolate earlyer but that dint work, and some of the water i have been drinking is fridge cold!!!
I tried lying on my side but unfortunatly fell asleep as im knacked!!!!

It can't hurt to go and get checked over, then...I hope everything is fine and baby is just having a duvet day!

didsnbump · 12/12/2007 19:03

I have had some iced water and managed to get another wriggle out of baby, plus hubby blew a rasberry on my belly and baby jumped rather massively (poor thing).

Do you think i should still call the Midwife as that is about 4/5 small movements know???

Yes definitely call them - stop reading and do it. You should be getting 10 movements a day.

Nat1H · 12/12/2007 21:27

This happened to me with DS1. I had been given a kick chart, and had to mark off at least 10 kicks a day. This was usually complete ny 8.30am!! (very active baby) One day, he suddenly stopped kicking. I had 3 kicks one day, one the next. As it happened, I was going in to look around the maternity unit, I mentioned my swollen ankles and lack of movement by the baby. My BP was through the roof - yes, pre-eclampsia! Sorry to scare you, but I would get this chekced out now! My baby was born 2 days later by emergency C section at 32 weeks.
Ring the midwife now and insist on being monitored.

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 13/12/2007 08:59

Any news - how are things today? x

didsnbump · 13/12/2007 09:22

Hi,

I went in to be checked and baby is fine, but still wasnt active, so was told if still no movement by friday to go back. But by the time i got home it had woken up and rewarded me but wedging its feet under my ribs as i tried to sleep!!!!!

Thanks for the support, i just hope the next few weeks go smooth now as i hate being a hassle!!!!!!

That's great news and I absolutely think you did the right think by being checked. How can you possibly be being a hassle - the midwives spend X hours at work in one shift and it doesn't matter who they care for in those hours. It was a totally valid reason for going in and I'm sure they told you that themsleves

callmeoverchristmas · 13/12/2007 11:52

That's good news! I think everyone has a few panics throughout their Pregnancy but you can never be too careful.

PutThatInYourPipeandSmokeIt · 13/12/2007 16:29

No that's right and I panic through everyone elses!!

jinglebeller · 13/12/2007 18:12

glad everything was ok didsnbump..i have had a very quiet day today with babybel, and im 38 weeks tomorrow...off to drink some ice cold water and lie on my side for 1/2 hour before calling MW!! xx

tatt · 13/12/2007 19:32

Great. It rarely is a problem - but the time you don't go and be monitored will be the time it's serious. Much better to get reassured.

LOVEMYMUM · 13/12/2007 20:01

Hi dids.

If it makes you feel any better, my friend is a Dr in a maternity unit and he had his wife monitored all day every day when she was in the later stages of pregnancy cos baby was small. See, even Dr's get concerned too

peanutbutterkid · 13/12/2007 20:02

I heard that about 36 weeks they start to get newborn type patterns of sleep, so they may seem a lot less active all of a sudden.

Ledodgy · 13/12/2007 20:04

Oh God don't say that peanut i'm 37 weeks and this baby doesn't stop wriggling am I destined for a non-sleeping newborn?

didsnbump · 13/12/2007 20:06

Well little one is back to his/her usuall moving around like mad today.

I must say though im getting lots of periods pains now though. They dont have a pattern really but they are getting stronger and lasting longer when i do get them. God i hope this means he/she is on there way?

I found that my daughter moved a lot less just before she was born. Maybe it does mean you are on your way! Hope so - good luck.
