Hello,

I found out I was pregnant a few weeks ago after being off the pill for a year and a half. I was so happy. However a few days ago (round about what I thought was 6 and a half weeks pregnant) I started having period like cramps. They have lasted for 2 days now, at their worst yesterday. I kept feeling like I would start my period, and low and behold last night I got some brown bleeding. As the night went on there was a little dark red also. However quite watery. I called GP who referred me to EPAU and I had a scan this morning.
So, my scan showed thickened lining which they said meant I am pregnant or have been pregnant, however nothing else - no sac, no fetis. The nurse told me that I could have had an early miscarriage or that I was actually earlier in my pregnancy than I thought. I had my bloods taken and have to go back Sunday morning for another set, then hopefully a few hours after I will get my HCG results. I am terrified. Has anyone else experienced anything like this and had a happy ending? I thought I was 6 weeks 5 days today.
Thanks

When was your last period?

I am afraid that if you were dating yourself as 6 weeks and 5 days based on your last period date- they would be able to see something on a transvaginal scan. A fetal pole, with a heartbeat- most likely. From 5 weeks the sac will be visible.

I am so sorry you are going through this. I really hope you get something concrete from your HCG results tomorrow.

Have you done any home pregnancy tests to see line progression?

My last period was 19th September. Yeah I think if I am still pregnant then I’m definitely earlier than I thought. Nurse said if I was 5 weeks then this would be more likely what we would see. However I’ve also heard some people having no fetus/sac on the scan and then it’s there a week later.

Yes I’ve done a few home pregnancy tests since finding out, done one today out of curiosity even though I know there will still be hcg in my system if I’ve miscarried. Line was still quite clear. But I don’t feel hopeful Sad

Thankyou

As someone who has had MC, I really hope you have a happy ending, but brace yourself. Even if you were closer to 5, a sac should be visible then. You should be nearly 7.

Please keep an eye on your body- particularly pain in the tip of your shoulder or anything localised. It may be an ectopic if your levels are high but they still can’t find anything.

Look after yourself. Have a lovely meal or your favourite takeaway even if you don’t feel like it. See if you can get some anti histamines to knock you out tonight as the waiting is the absolute worst.

And please stay away from forums- for every happy ending there are 20 worst case scenarios and it doesn’t help. I was there googling “slow heartbeat? Normal?” just a few months ago.

Hi @LucyAnne34, do you remember when you tested positive? Are your cycles long or irregular? Just trying to work out if you could have ovulated later and be a lot later on. My friend had similar bleeding and it worked out ok for her. Sending lots of love

LucyAnne34 · 05/11/2021 19:19

I tested positive on day 34 of my cycle - 22nd October. Usually my cycles are 28-33 days so not regular. But I also did ovulation tests through the month and found my peak ovulation days 15/16. However unsure when I actually ovulated. I don’t think I understand how I could be earlier - don’t they always go from your last period anyway? Even if I ovulated later etc wouldn’t I still be classed as the same amount of weeks pregnant…Confused
Thankyou for your response ❤️

Yes you’re right, as in they always initially date from the first day of your last period. However this only gives an accurate due date/gestation if you have the perfect 28 day cycle and ovulate on day 14. That’s why sometimes your due date is adjusted at the 12 week scan. So if you have longer cycles and don’t ovulate until day day 21, your due date is likely to be moved back by a week when scanned. Hope you understand what I mean xx

I went for a scan at 6 weeks to be dated 4 weeks. That baby is now 6 months old. Its very easy for your dates to be wrong even when your sure of then. Saying that tho at my 1st scan where I was 4 weeks they said she could see that I was pregnant, at 5 weeks she could see a sack & the start of a fetal pole then by 7 weeks a heartbeat

Good luck. I hope you get some good news on Sunday

Thankyou everyone. I’ve done a few home pg test aswel even though I know hcg can stay around a while after a miscarriage. Unfortunately the line has got lighter and lighter. I think baby has gone 😪
