Is this labour approaching?

I'm currently 36+4 with first baby, at my 34 week midwife appointment she said that baby was head down and nicely engaged at 2/5 and that baby was on the left with their back to the bump. At my 36 week appointment I had a different midwife and she didn't say anything about baby's position and hasn't published my notes on badger notes so don't know if anything changed.

On Tuesday I think I started to lose my mucus plug, but it wasn't streaked with blood or anything, and this week I've been so uncomfortable. Sorry if TMI but I've been needing to constantly go to the bathroom for number 2 2/3 times a day, when usually it's just the once a day, I've also had diarrhea. I've also had on and off lower back pain specifically on my left side and abdominal cramps which has really been putting me off food and just made me vomit. The pains however are not regular just at random times a day and waking me up early in the morning which I've been managing with a hot water bottle.

Does it sound like labour is approaching or am I just being hopeful/this is just normal last month of pregnancy uncomfortableness? Definitely not feeling ready as my partner is still doing up our bedroom and I doubt he'll be done until next week 😱

Hi @PlantMummy87

How exciting! It does sound like things are moving in the right direction. I've had the same symptoms from around 36 weeks and now 41 weeks, so although it could be imminent I don't think it is necessarily- the last few weeks are just very unglamorous!

Hopefully not much longer for you though Smile

@Oodlesofdoodlescockapoodles thank you for replying and the reassurance. It must have been a long 5 weeks for you waiting for your little ones arrival. Hoping you get to meet them very soon and all goes well! 💐☺️

I am at about the same gestation. I Hope it doesn’t take too long! My tummy just feels v tight, getting heartburn and constipation. No cramping though. If you are unwell do speak to the midwife/maternity unit/gp about symptoms though (as it could be an infection or something).

Ok I am opening a book. I am going to say 40+1 for you OP. Yes lots of signs there, but equally, you could have lots of time left.

Please come back and let me know I nailed the date.

Flowers all the very best for a lovely birth.

I’m 40+8 today with 1st baby… I went for my third sweep yesterday and lost my mucus plug between 12.30pm and this morning (in giant clumps! - it started blood streaked and now just a dark yellow colour).

I’m 2cm dilated with a low & very soft cervix and the MW was able to touch babies head yesterday.

However I haven’t started contracting at all, feel no pain and waters haven’t broken and I’m defending starting to feel fed up and like my body is taking it’s SWEET time.

Its so hard to predict if labour is imminent or not and I have read into every tiny thing.

Let us know if you progress 🤞🏽

I also had similar symptoms at 36 weeks! Lost mucus plug, felt cramps, twinges and thought it was all going to happen.

Still pregnant and now 38 weeks! Hope all goes well for you OP Smile
